    Going Sideways, WTF

I've noticed more and more that whenever anyone posts photos in the want ads and even just on the forum that the photos end up sideways. even if you upload them right side up. Its rather annoying to say the least. Go look in the buy and sell section, its like they are all sideways and thats not on purpose.

It works like this for me. I use insert picture. choose file. find photo which is always upright in my computer. upload file and then it magically pops on the page sideways. very irritating. So i delete the photo, go back to my selected photo and physically make it larger on my computer with the "adjust size" thing. close it out. then go back to "insert image" then find the photo. select photo. upload photo and it now is in the correct position. Then when I hit submit new thread it appears just fine, except at the bottom a box appears that says attachments and there is that damn sideways photo lurking at the bottom of the post after it was deleted and you cannot go back into edit and delete it. I'm using Safari but I don't think that matters. So what gives? I think someone needs to look into this. I can't be the only one with this problem, just maybe the only one that will say anything.

If I don't ask any questions, I'll never learn anything.

One out of three worked, I don't like the odds.

I deleted the 4th photo and it always re-appears after you hit submit as an attached thumbnail. Now it cannot be deleted, even under edit.

I've been experiencing sideways images as well, just figured it was my image size. I tend to crop my pictures with Paint and don't put any effort into cropping them to a common image size pixel wise, just crop as close to what I want to share and save it.

This is caused by the influx of camera phones. Phone orientation is stored in the metadata of the picture and will usually display correctly when the image is viewed by a device that understands the metadata. The problem is that rotational information is not cared for by most web forum software so the image gets displayed in the orientation it was taken without correction.

if you open the photo in editing software on a PC / Mac when you save it the XY axis information is reset and it displays correctly.

That's what I was thinking but I didn't know how to say it. Seems all my photos I snap with my camera phone in standard up and down mode appear on the site sideways and sometimes upside down. Most of the pictures that have been shot with the phone sideways tend to show up on the site how they should, but not all. But either way this doesn't address why when you delete a sideways photo it magically reappears as an attachment after you post and you cannot delete it even under the edit post.

Curious if this is exclusive to Apple products. I have this problem with one of my ipads only. I have never posted with my iphone 7.

A work around I discovered for an ipad is go to your images-open the pic you are going to post- take a screen shot of the pic- then post the screen shot pic. It has worked every time for me, and it makes the pic easier to find for posting. This might work for an iPhone as well.

I mostly upload from my iMac on occasion I will upload from my android phone. My photos are taken on an android Note 4 then emailed to my email then opened up on my iMac then put on the desktop then uploaded to screamandfly. Thats my process. Which apparently might have a glitch somehow. I have both but I usually use Safari browser instead of Google because Safari is more user friendly with iMac being its the same company.

What's an imac? On a mac computer default pic opener is "preview" if you open a sideways pic in preview, you have the option to rotate the picture, once rotated, don't forget to save. It will then have repaired the original file.

Samsung S5 Neo cell phone. I don't own an Android phone but use whatever you have to upload it to your computer then open it in whatever photo preview program you have then save the file locally. That should reset the orientation.
