Lightest rebuild components
Been under the weather a couple days and have passed the time working on materials needed to redo the core, transom and stringers etc... on my boat and for the life of me I can't make a solid decision on what to use for each area. Any ideas what the lightest of the numerous options are? If so, is the weight reduction dramatic or negligible? I mention weight because I wanna put my 1632 lb piggy on a diet but I obviously want it to be practical for use as a fishing boat. Humor me, I can't sleep more than a couple hours and I am bored.

lightest ??
Messing round with boats is fun !! the learning never stops ,even after more than 30 years there's always something new happening somewhere ! BUT somethings never change and some problems never go away and just keep reoccurring !!so moved into Composite Forensics , Now that something completely new !!

Coosa 26# density for stringers and transom, a good foam like corecell for deck and hull, and vinyl resin with 1708 bi axial fabric. This is as light and strong as I know.....Used this combo in many boats with no failures. Extreemly durable. I beat my stuff hard, no trailer queens in my barn.

You can get as light as you can afford, but the question always is where does it end? In my boat 75 lbs = 1 mph. I grew up on Long Island Sound where any weakness in boat or rigging is quickly exposed, so my engineering philosophy became "too strong is just about right" and I always err on the side of stronger/heavier. When I want more speed I just add horsepower, it's a whole bunch easier in the end.
If you really get obsessed with weight, just hire a midget to drive and watch the boat go fast from the dockLiving in the Freedom provided by Bud Conner and his fellow warriors.

Yes..I think I am guilty of this over weight obsession in my current project. I tend to over build things, and yea, some were heavier than needed...but I never had a structural failure yet.
Thanks for the overlooked truths...and who knows maybe that extra 75 lbs. might keep you from gettin wet .. or not..

Thank you sir, that is exactly what I was getting at. I do want light but like you, I USE my boat. I don't abuse it but I do make it work when I am fishing, sometimes I work it like a mule team when I am in the heavy cover or bad weather. We don't get big rollers here but some of our lakes get really rough in bad weather or even a steady wind. I want to be light but I don't want to worry about my transom falling off or the bottom of my boat caving in.
