Limiting the trim mechanically is a good safety precaution for most situations but that alone can't prevent accidents like this one. You have to have enough trim travel to run in a tail wind situation and unfortunately thats just enough to cause a problem with a head wind or cross wind.

2 heavy duty Solenoids wired in series for up trim + Limited Mechanical Trim range is the best solution for preventing stuck solenoid issues IMO. I didn't come up with either of these ideas.....just things I've learned from other people over the last couple of years. Nothing is 100% but this gets you about as close as possible.

A good choice is a 24V aviation solinoid.Be sure to buy one that has a PMA.These will be old fashion quality stuff!---Oh be sure to get a start one,and not a master one. They look the same but duty cycle and amp ratings are different.Lamar# X61-0031 should do nicely.

I've been putting as much as 42 volts through one. Not saying it's a good thing but trim voltages of 30-40 volts are pretty common in drag racing.

This boat runs a physical stop inside the trim ram. The boat is good water conditions is drivable at the mechanical limit. It has lithium 36 volt up, so as Erik stated 40 plus volts. This is on a 24v relay. This didn't fail. Nor did the trim timer double trip, nor did a trim switch stick it was simply a 12 v solenoid that stuck while on 12v. Add the. Wind and waves and over it went. Like I said above a sequence of events.

Maybe racing with wind and white caps isn't a good thing either. Probably do that run 100 more times in the same conditions and this wouldn't happen. **** just happens. One odd ball wave, a strange gust at an in opportune time and so on.

My camera takes 6 frames per second, from the moment the boat went up until it was back into the water was just under 3 seconds. Felt like an eternity watching from the shore.
