Honestly if the guy is gonna concentrate on lightening up and cleaning up the hull, a budget 2.5 200 will get him on the water, and can save up for more power, 80mph isn't the end of the world.

Bigboy, you think an opti would be good ? I have a fresh 250 pro xs, but was thinking i'd rather stick with a 2.5, i have a 4" panther plate and 12" bobs action for my ae 21, i'm bringing it into the shop for new knees and paint this winter,i've had that boat on my list to fix for a long time, but a bass boat usually seems to bump it as the winter project, not this year.

The 260 is a newer 2.5 l version of a 2.4 bridgeport, 245hp carb and 260hp efi, but they are a nicasil bore full blooded race div. Motor, needing expensive maintenance , every 150 or so hours. I just bought a 225 promax an hour ago, so you gotta keep looking, their around, i coulda' took the 260 beside it, but realistically the 225 made more sense for me.

It's a factory 15" ss cowl with the hood pin. Ya' i like that cowl better than my aliens, i have the 250 pro xs but decided today to have dave sell that for me and build a promax, he has a very tempting 260 ready to assemble sitting there, but i stopped myself from taking it, lol

so the bp's and the 2.5 (245 and 260's) need preventative attention every 150-200 hours. what's the approximate cost to have done professionally?
does the promax require this attention as well at some point, if so at what sort of hours, or do you just run them till they don't anymore?
(thanks for everyone's patience with this 101)

The promax is a steel sleeve motor and will goo much longer on a rebuild, 400 to 500 hours are not uncommon.
