Mercury 200 XRI
The oil injection alarm started beeping last time at the lake and I am thinking about doing away with the injection system and pre-mix the gas and oil. I have read posts that say to leave the pump in place and just put a hose between the suction and discharge of the pump. I have also read posts that say to remove the pump and put in the block off plug and bushing retainer. Would it hurt anything to just remove the suction and discharge fittings completely and leave the suction and discharge ports of the pump open?

It probably costs less than $10 and fifteen minutes to do it correctly. Remove pump replace with correct blockoff. Remove module, both oil tanks, plug hole in block and hole in vst.
Should you decide to leave everything on there do not leave the ports open as the pump will still be turning. If the pump locks up you could distribute unwanted particles thru out your motor.

When you say module are you referring to the transducer above the pump that detects drive rod rotation?

Follow the wires from the rotation sensor to the black box on the port side of the engine. That's the module.

The wires from the rotation sensor have quick disconnects on the top of the motor. I just disconnected them at that point. Do I need to follow the wires from the disconnect point to where ever they go and remove what they are connected to?

I have never been one to leave inoperable parts on a motor. Just extra wires etc. in the way. Take it all off. First time I ever said that to a dude.
