    Broken Sleeve

I've got a 93 200hp Evinrude, that had an issue this year. A wrist pin circlip fell out, caught a port, and caused a broken piston skirt. It also took off a piece of the sleeve at an intake port. Since I'm working on a non-existent budget, what I need to know is if I can run this with a new piston and rings, without having to re-sleeve it. If I chamfer the edges of the broken area, I can't see the rings hanging up. I'm really wondering what effect the missing piece would have on performance, or it it would lead to catastrophic failure. I've had enough of them!! The missing piece is about the size of a half dime.

I think your going to be disappointed trying to fix that.
at best the sleeve is now going to be out of round having the chunk ripped out of it instead of machined out.

sell some stuff and get the money for the re-sleeve and do it properly, I know money is tight, but youl be chucking money straight down the
    drain trying to salvage that.
the rest of the sleeve is scored too.

What it really needs is a sleeve, and the other 5 bored, along with 6 new pistons. I'd also like to throw a whole rebuild kit at it while I'm in there, but that's just not in the cards right now. I'd like to make it live with the broken sleeve for maybe a month next year, until I can sell some stuff.

don't think it would be out of round at the top where the rings ride,if theres no goughes and a hone would clean it up go for it and if you have money for 5 more ring sets hone and rering the other ones and you may end up with a decent motor again that will run for many more years jmo

nope, no gouges, and i think a hone will take the worst of the wear marks out. If no one sees an issue with the port opening, I'll try it. and yeah, new rings and honed for all 6. Thanks for the input.

Sounds like a plan to me Thanks. Any suggestion on what pistons to put back in it? I need 2, the one below it sucked in some of the pieces of the skirt, and got hammered on a bit. Rings are stuck now. Go with OEM, Wiseco, WSM???

Has that block been apart before? not much chamfer on those ports. Also looks like it possibly was a ring locator that came out, if so all the others are most likely loose too. LOOK that area over really well i have pulled allot of sleeves damaged like that one and found cracks on the back side that made me really have to look to see the crack line on the inside. Try and look behind that area and see if the aluminum sleeve support is cracked too. It really needs a sleeve but i have been there and know payin the bills comes first. If it is crack free... i would trim that corner off so all the lines are straight otherwise it may break off on its own and put a big chamfer on that area and all the ports.

No, if you think its rotated, it hasn't. OMC sleeves never line up perfectly.

I don't believe its been apart before. Its still a stock bore, and I'm pretty sure its OMC gel that was sealing the block halves. The locator pin is still in the piston, but I found the wrist pin circlip missing. Later found that in the exhaust in the gearcase, along with parts of the piston skirt. The skirt pieces also got caught between the crank and the front half, and knocked a hole in the front half. It would still turn 5000 RPMs after it gernaded, and I drove it back to the launch.
