There was a sign posted at one of the stops during the lake Cumberland poker run a couple weeks ago that made the statistics really obvious "638 people have died in this lake 3 were wearing lifevest"...

Very sad. I think we should ban jetty's. Prayers out to the victim's families.

Agreed. And a question? How do they know how many were aboard to look for? Have no idea. Just posing the question. And the news channels are reporting in this new story first thing this morning..."That absolutely, in no way, were alcohol and drugs, a part in what caused this accident". How could they tell this so soon? Again, just curious how they know these things. Very unfortunate accident. Hate to hear stuff like this.

No question about it. And no question, they absolutely should have been wearing PFD's, but I'm not sure it would have helped much in this situation.
When we're that age, a lot of things don't even feel risky, because we think we're invincible.
Man, sounds like he was gonna have a kid soon, too. What a terrible shame. My heart goes out to his family.Barry

media is going to say what they want (and get it wrong) as usual. They don't know unless they talked to a family member or friend who knew how many people were on the boat. And they certainly don't know if alcohol or drugs have anything to do with it either. For me, knowing Miami and that it was at night (whether fishing or joy riding) there most likely was alcohol involved, but I don't know that for sure either.

What we know so far per the news conference from the Coast Gaurd/FWC/Police is
1) Confrimed only 3 on board per family members who knew they were going out.
2) Boat did not belong to the Marlins Pitcher but they were all close friends.
3) The boat is a local boat and has been in and out of the cut many times with other players according to authorities who have stopped them in the past.
4) No immediate signs of alcohol or drugs but they are conducting autopsies.
That is all they know thus far.

Heard about it threw word-of-mouth of a co-worker boating enthusiast. Really crappy situation. Any details of how it happened? I'm not familiar with the area. No lights? navigational aids? Returning into the jetty?
