16" Baja with V6 crossflow

1985 Baja Sport 164 with a fresh 1979 crossflow V6 built by Jeff Baker. Powerhead has been updated with GT150 carbs, heads and a brand new VRO system.

Boat is solid. Runs in the mid 60's with a Shooter. I'm sure it has more potential with something that would carry the bow.

If the motor has more than 10 hours on it since the rebuild I'd be surprised.

If not sold in the next couple weeks, she's going into MN winter storage and I will remove the advertisement.

Come on guys, the dang motor is totally fresh and the boat is clean. I priced it to move it NOW. The motor is a top quality piece and done right. Someone come get this, work with setup and props, and make her run before some CL bonehead buys it and destroys a nice piece of Baja history.

A little run on the river last night. Once the sun dropped below the horizon, she got chilly--Fall is most definitely in the air.

Nice boat and engine. As a kid I was too immature to like Bajas and Checkmates, because they...weren't HydroStreams, Allisons and Lasers. They really are great boats, though, as you noted Pete, a strong part of outboard performance history in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Good luck with the sale. That's a great price for what looks like a really nice rig.

I mean, the boat isn't perfect by any means, but it isn't wet and rotten, the interior is presentable, and most of all it isn't priced like it's perfect. It could use a little TLC, but the bones are all there. It had a pretty good (unintentional) hook in it in the last 12 inches, and I sanded that out which really loosened the boat up nicely. She doesn't porpoise or do anything stupid at low speed. Drives EZ at speed even with single cable.

The picture shows it running with a 25 Shooter, which (as can be seen) doesn't provide a lot of bow lift. A 26 Raker is much better, but I think the hot ticket would probably be a 26 ET or maybe even a thinned out Signature 4 blade. It's a 149ci motor, so it's not going to turn a 28 ever. Thinning out a prop anymore is proving to be a challenge, because Mazar is gone. Still looking for a guy that can do what John could.
