    Project #2. 1980 Vulture

Not done project #1. But #2 will be starting before the snow hits the ground.
My father's 1980 Vulture. It was running on borrowed time. It either ran out of time, or there is a possibility that he hit something, which was the straw that broke the camel's back.... Or in this case the hull. Our neighbor lost a prop on his talon a day or 2 prior in the same bay. Father put the boat in and was driving around, boat started acting sluggish so he brought it into the dock, got it tied up, got out, 2 mins later there was water over the floor. He jumped in the water trimmed the motor up and spun the boat around, jamming the transom up into the sand. Ran the bilge pump for a while til it was mostly empty, met the neighbor at the boat ramp across the bay and brought it home.
Either way. Here are a few pictures. Should start making dust tomorrow.

    The broken back

What? You don't have 3.0L opti in your basement?

The floor came out by hand, 2 people pulling, no power tools required.

Started bracing up the hull. Going to need a step ladder to get into and out of the damn thing.

Just an opinion from a guy who has had bad experiences with all roller trailers...Maybe consider swapping roller s for bunks, their a whole lot easier on the hull, especially going down a bumpy road. jmo

I'm right there with you at almost the same spot in my V-King restore. Mine is the same blue as yours. Just got the deck off and pulled the floor and flotation boxes out and the rotten wood in the transom. Getting ready to grind next.

Good luck with the rebuild, keep the pics coming!
Sweet motor going back on...no my basement doesn't have a 3.0 Opti.

The intent is to switch out the rollers for bunks as soon as the hull is finished. My vector is on a bunk trailer. The idea of rollers doesn't even seem like a good one to me, dunno why they are so popular.
Will be leaving the deck on this one, I left the deck on my Vector when I recored it. Under the deck was awkward but it wasn't all that bad really.

I'd like to put it on the ground, but there isn't a single flat piece of ground any where, and I am pretty sure the plan is to pull it part way down the driveway when we do most of the grinding, it's too close to the house and deck to make that much dust.

The vulture didn't have any foam in it or anything so that's kind of nice compared to my vector.

James, if you haven't gotten a hold of one of those diamond grinding discs, I highly recommend that you do. They are pretty sweet.

    Also 2 questions for everyone:
Any good way to get the all that household carpet glue out of the boat from one of the previous owners?
And in relation to my vector, any good paint strippers to take the auto clear off the top without destroying the gel under it? Some gel damage is fine as it's getting sanded and re gel'd after.

    Thanks

I am going to have to deal with carpet glue in mine as well, but have not tried to remove it yet. Realizing it will clog any grinding pads.

I will have to try to find one of those diamond metal disks, have read several times they are time savers. Just pricey..

I do have some paint stripper made for fiberglass painted boats, aircraft, etc. I have not tried it yet, but got the name of it from another member here who had to strip his Vector. He said it worked well on his boat.
I will be stripping both my Stream projects down to the gel-coat. It's pricey @ $25/gal. Maybe you can locate some cheaper...Got mine at O'reillys Auto Parts.

I pulled my deck because it needs structural work..Looks like someone walked on it and cracked it. I also want to remove all the wood and re do the dash. So for me it is easier to flip the deck and work standing up. It was tough to get the deck off, and save the motor well for sure.

Been a long winter, got some cutting, smashing and a bit of grinding in before the rain started. Transom is out, it was actually in slightly better shape than I expected. However luckily for me the core is way worse than I expected, so at least it has almost entirely swept out.

Hopefully the weather is decent tomorrow and I can get some grinding done.
