132 back in 1966 withh a 100hp omc thats very impressive!! Cool clip thanks for sharing that one. ive seen the 174 one V8 but not this one.

If I remember right they eventually got 140+ out of it in a later run.

If it went 140 it did it going vertical... 8 years later they almost killed their "kid" (Gerry Walin) trying to break Jim Merten's record. I remember seeing pictures of the crash in a magazine as a youngster in a boat racing crazy household... damn shame.

Yes, but it was quite a while back that it was posted. A lot of members would have never seen it. There is also at least one thread on the boat builder and designer

I seem to recall that the OMC guys never let the lower unit show in any pictures. I have heard various stories about this unit claiming it was a tractor or a twin prop tractor pusher unit. Maybe we could get FUJIMO to work his magic on the blow over pictures of that boat and find out for sure?

Tractor lower units were outlawed in the 1950's.

The lower unit was a custom made Hubbell overdrive unit. There are a number of pictures of it already here on SnF; its the same one used on the earlier V-4 record motors. There was no attempt to hide the lower unit, its just not the focus of any of the pictures and nothing for OMC to have bragged about since they simply bought it from a vendor.
