write new expiration dates on them . I use expired ones for New Years and Fourth....... we get a lot of them at work...... like Rick says, be careful when buying them, I have seen expired ones on the shelf at some places.

I keep my expired flares (both hand held and aerial) on my boat. I do keep them separate from my non-expired flares and in clearly marked Zip-Lock bags. There's nothing illegal about keeping expired flares on board as long as you have up to date flares too. Who knows when 3 flares might not be enough? There's no shame in being rescued when the CG spots your expired flares after you've exhausted all of your good ones.

I just went thru this with the freakin fwc, i keep at atleast 1 pack of old ones because we all know they are fine, especially if there sealed in a zip-lok or vac packed and dry but he insisted you weren't supposed to have old ones on board but couldn't show me anything in writing, love how these guys make this stuff up. When i got home i searched all the cg and fl regs and found nothing on old flares but...did find that during sunrise to sunset you only need a day VDS visual distress signal , this can be a non-pyrotechnic -3x3 orange flag with a black square and ball, perfect for the hot rods, buying these flares every year is total bs. The cg on columbus-day regatta a few years back wouldn't let you in the water until they checked your flares , what about all the other required equipment total crap. Dave

I have one of the electronic flares and keep it in my go bag. I'm tired of buying flares for three boats. Meets all USCG requirements.Click image for larger version.

GOVERMENT OVERREGULATION, bullshsit. just another way to climb up your ass. thanks for making me aware of these regulations they are using to harass normally safe boaters simply to be able to generate revinue through lobbists demanding the purchase of items timely that are not required by the design parimeters of said item. try dealing with the DOT in the Trucking Business, stupid BS, we have something like 3000 regulations to try and stop you from doing business. paid for by the MEGA trucking co's with their Lobbist's trying to eliminate OWNER OPERATORS, Small Business Owners. F um. Fun Out

Well Keith we carry them but I believe Port Supply (West Marine) sells them. I would say buy one from us but the markup is like 10 bucks so I really cant make you a screaming deal. They are right around 97 dollars but just think of new flares every 3 years. https://siriussignal.com/

Im sorry sir but you can clearly see that is a "smoke" flare and not an electronic flare. Also note the area is California not the Garden State of New Jersey. We shall further discuss this over lunch soon
