[QUOTE=FUJIMO;2994585]Yes. The early 80's Coral Gables/Saugatuck races no doubt. Poor little quiet town could'nt take all the excitement though... I was there, Topper Johnson owned Gables and put the race together. Grand Haven is a much more practical site. I was 12 years old and remember walking around the pits well into the night just hoping that I would get the chance someday.

Great shot of my old friend Bill Kaye, in his three consecutive year in a row, National Championship Velocity 22. This photo was taken in the very first year of racing the boat, winning race after race in the Stock Class, as the "S-1" isn't on the boat yet. Bill eventually stopped racing because of a cancer scare, that he recovered from. Great great guy. Hope all is well with him & family...

[QUOTE=JPEROG;2995510] ...Those were great races. Was also at the August 1982 race. Craig Collebella(Lake X) & I started & ran three of the first 2.4 EFI Offshore motors, that were on a boat that went down in 100 feet of water, and was towed into Frank Denison's home & yacht building slip, via a 17 Boston Whaler. Frank & Ken Denison(Broward Yachts), family/business friends, "slowly" lifted the boat out with his megayacht TraveLift, while it drained, put in on the trailer, and took it to the Merc Race Truck in the pits. Craig & I started & ran each EFI for about an hour each to dry out & oil all the internals. Without ever touching those engines again, they went on to run all the remaining races of that season, without a glitch. Al Copeland backed up two tractor trailers in the pits, opened the back doors, and had full scale Popeye's kitchens in each of them. One trailer handed out as many bisquits as you wanted, the other all the chicken that you wanted...all free. Fun times.
