Stator questions, 9 amp vs 40

Have to get a 2.4 together for the weekend, can a lower amperage stator replace a higher amperage one? I have what I believe is a 9 amp and it would be replacing a 40.

    Thanks

Yes, but you'll need to use a matching 9 amp flywheel, starter and rectifier. The regulators will be eliminated.

Are the starter teeth count different or something?

Alright, got the matching flywheel to go with stator. Not sure what amperage they are but they are a matched set, should be good to go.

teeth on 9 amp flywheel same as tha flywheel you're takin' off so tha bendix will engage right.... if ya old like me/us, easiest way (i can't count over 20) is put it on and see if starter will engage and turn it over.....

Your forty amp is thicker than the thinner 9-16 amp.The latter two use the same flywheel. You can leave both regulators on the motor, just put the two yellow stator wires to one of them.and insulate the other two.If it ever goes bad, just switch the two yellows to the other regulator.

Whichever one works. It's possible one was bad before hand and you didn't notice.

If it isn't bad, you can leave the red wires from the spare hooked up. If the VR fails just transfer the yellow and grey (tach) wires.

I just got back from herding a first gen Cummins, a fiver, and a bass boat to Montana and back. Then got involved in 15 Windows 10 upgrades in 2 days. Besides, I'm too poor to pay attention.
