76 checkmate restore
I've started a restore/redesign on my checkmate. I bought the boat and trailer for $500. It came with a Berkeley 12je pump. I've had the boat for 2 years and am finally getting around to rebuilding everything.
My engine of choice, (as boring as it may be) is a fuel injected 240hp 318. I had a wrecked 1500 dodge truck that I pulled engine, harness, computer and fuel system out of.
I know it's no power house but I'm hoping for now it will look cool and be a fun tubing/ski boat for my wife and kids and I.

My first goal was redoing the floor. I used 1/2 plywood and coated everything in fiberglass resin and then matted it into the hull.

My next hurdle was figuring out how to get the exhaust out of the boat. After a lot of reading and finding super expensive used parts that I refused to buy, I decided to build my own. I built a jacketed manifold system to exit through the hull. I cut flanges and built a 2.5" manifold and then wrapped it in a 3" pipe to complete the jacket. It took some thought, but I'm hoping it will work.

I now have to finish pulling the wiring harness out of the donor truck, figure out what I need to keep and what I can discard in the wiring, and get the engine all wired up for starting. Also need to finish the rear motor mounts and order a steering cable. I'm super excited to finally see some real progress. I can't wait to get it on the water, even if it'll only do 45-50mph haha.
