'stream restoration

Im looking at an '86 viking thats been sitting out in some guys backyard for who knows how long, its got vines growing all in it. Its got an '88 mariner 2.4 150 on the back of it.... If i get this boat, What kind of work am i looking at here to get 'er sea worthy? I've read that all the streams need new cores no matter how dry or solid you think they are, is their any truth to this? Thanks.

All depends on how you want to do it and how much you have to spend on your project. They all need a core if its original and hasn't been touched. Core, stringers, transom, and floor. Use the search function and it will give you the answers you seek. Decide a route first and go with it

It is quite an undertaking but well worth the work. If you tend to lose interest quickly it may not be a project you are wanting to take on. If there are plants in it the motor most likely will also need work as well. Be cautious, think about very hard and make sure you do not over pay. Doing the resto yourself is still a rather large investment in money, and mostly time!

That 150 might be a 2.0 not a 2.4. Run the serial number to see exactly what it is.

I have an 85 150 Mariner Magnum, it is a 2.0. Or you can look at the cylinder head. 2.0 head is stamped 3-1/8 and the 2.4 is stamped 3-3/8. If memory serves.

If the price is right buy it, and restore it!!

If the hull was used as a planter I would hope the planter, trailer and motor are Free.....I would look at it from the Worst Possible....What will it need...Everything and possibly some Hull Damage repair.

Sad that someone would trash a much sought after boat.

My 1979. I am still restoring it. new core and floor, wiring, hdy. steering, seats, gas tank. Fixing the trailer. $1600 and its yours needs outboard.....

ok, so I've made a mistake. this boat isn't even a hydrostream, its a stratus vt-180... anybody know about these boats?

Here you go....Looks similar to my Mod VP hull in that Tunnel with a Vee center Bottom.
