I still have what I call the "Wonder Prop". Believe it or not, it allowed me to realize the type of performance I could achieve (it was the first prop that actually went fast) and it allowed to me learn to drive the boat fast - Thank You!! I'll shoot it down to you if we don't see each other around Doc's place some time. BTW, I hear rumor that he's working on another top secret Frankenmerc, the man is a GENIUS!

    Pete
Just hang on to it as don't need it. Its only a Alum 2 B what?..12-23? No cup and Flatty likes the SS 2 B 12x24 cupped. Flatty aint that fast (yours probably beat me top end) and Doc built me that motor orig choked (72?) 115 block, but mods to do a true 135 again. But even I had a real XS back 70's, the decals are simple TITS! Plus timing down as my "days doing a hole in one"? Over! But its a "water gokart"! And its all acceleration me and screw top end. Its that damn "drag racer in me"! Its all in the thrill, right?
And by the way guys on the prop sent him? We met Fiberglassics, and I offered him for free that prop to try and keep if worked, no charge, ship it for $10. Well, he would not take it unless paid me $40. Thats the way he is...real.

And those vids are on either Lake Sutherland, or Lake Crescent north me the Olympic Nat Park peninsula west Port Angeles, (WA) below "Strait of Juan D Fuca" pacific ocean. And trust me, once leave civilization Port Angeles? And now a Nat Park? You REALLY "go back in time" and some the best pristine unspoiled place on earth! Did the "loop" on M/Cs from Olympia, and ..well....?......simple "wow"! It a must see!

And Pete, the Doc? He's ALWAYS up to some Merc wizard "trickery". and just had a email talk him and said I'll stop and see ya soon. He's only 25 miles from me.

Damn gearhead boaters..ya gotta luv'em! Be well Peter!

I had a request for some details about how the boat was built and here are a couple of photos. It is a cold molded build, based on the batten/seam technique. All planks were vacuum bagged (what a pain in the AZZ). Basically lots of longitudinal stringers (each longitudinal batten defines a plank edge), then a layer of diagonal mahogany plywood, then the solid mahogany planking. There is an integral "pad" built in, it really helps with top end. First photo of the battens, second of a section being vacuum bagged and third is a plank being fitted.

Thanks Robby, that was the last time he was able to drive the boat (he can't even get into it now). Felt guilty about taking so long to get the damn thin built! He loves watching the videos and tending the lines at least!

Getting the "age" prob me too but aint giving up yet. Plus a old "salty dog" friend mine now in the upper 70's finally gave up boating and sold his little boat. He has trouble walking so gave it up. But I told him I planned launching "dogs boat"..(and she's (doggy) going on 13 and hangs dog patch now and happy "getting old").. yesterday and stopped over to help simple hold the lines a splash, park the pig, and hit the slip. But wasn't ready yet me. Its simple "being near water" thats always "YES"!

And I'm getting close there myself, doing the in and out, launch, etc? Getting old OK me, as sure did "use my old ass up .."getting there". And zero regrets anything done life. Its all been a "adventure"...!

And my dad was ..well..my dad (last of the 3) and this cracks me up (pun intended) "back". The end the episode this when towing Jerry behind the car? Tough it out..."Ya gotta want it" HA!

    Pete,

Great of you to share more of your boat with the S and F folks, and so glad to be one of the guys giving you advice on increasing your speed. You've made a ton of progress performance wise, but the boat is, and always was a true masterpiece! Congratulations, and 60 is well within your reach. Hope you keep sharing videos of your beautiful lady!

That is absolutely beautiful! That is epic beyond words. I would love to photograph this boat.
We would love more photos and video if you can post in the future. That is just an amazing boat in every respect.

Robby, that engine "Doc" built is STRONG. It really show cases his talents and imagination as a mechanic and really as an artist, to conceive of, let alone build, such a powerful and unique engine.

I find myself cruising around 40-45 most of the time, but at random times (well most of the time really), I just can't resist punching it to feel the acceleration and hear that engine! I love cruising along Lake Crescent where 101 runs parallel to the shore and race the cars. They can't go quite as fast because of the curves, of course, but it's a blast anyways!

Trace, thanks for the kind words. I found it very humbling to receive such good advice on setting up the boat properly - insights that have been hard won through years of experience I'm sure. It was very generous to share it!

The boat/engine combination right now is at a "sweet spot" performance wise. It sucks that I live an hour away from the lake though!

Pete, can you show pictures of your jack plate installation?

I have the Glen L Stiletto that I am trying get more speed out of. People are advising against using a jack plate on a wooden boat..... Seems to be working OK for you.

Mohave you had any problems with the jack plate stressing the transom?
