Video - home built mahogany boat - vintage IL6 Mercury
About a year and a half ago, I asked for some set up advice on the Prop sub-forum and received a lot of great advice, which I've tried to implement. Thank you!!
I thought I'd post a real short montage video of the boat, showing it's current performance. While not in the class of most boats here on S&F, it's not bad for a 50+ year old motor on a wooden home built boat
The advice I received primarily centered on raising the engine (while monitoring H20 pressure) and prop choice. Right now, the prop shaft is about 3-3.5" below pad, and I'm turning a 24" small eared chopper in the video. Top speed so far is 58.6mph at 5400rpm. Might be 1 or 2 more mph in right conditions.
I have to give credit to the engine builder, Doc Frankenmerc, for creating such a strong running BEAST!! This old school engine really fits the style of the boat, too.
Turn up the sound to hear that engine!

Thanks for all the positive views, comments and compliments! It was fun building her, but its WAAAAY more fun to blast around the lake! Took a while to refine the set up and it was a learning process, but it was well worth it.
Regarding other videos, I have quite a few on YouTube, search for peter1708 - from the early outings (max speed of 42mph) to most recent (58.6mph).

Hey Pete, how ya doing! Some day I'll run into you or see ya a "The Docs"! And Dr Frankenmerc did the motor by me/us. Pete ya still hanging on to the prop I got for you? Don't sell it until ask me first as I still could use it a spare, but I don't need it now or maybe never, but just want to keep it our "hood". Wish the best and now "go get wet". I'm getting the Flatty wet soon too! Working the dogs boat at the moment. Later Pete!

Hi Robby,
Man, I want to see your boat run!! That flatty is super cool, love that low slung look - just intimidating!
I still have what I call the "Wonder Prop". Believe it or not, it allowed me to realize the type of performance I could achieve (it was the first prop that actually went fast) and it allowed to me learn to drive the boat fast - Thank You!! I'll shoot it down to you if we don't see each other around Doc's place some time. BTW, I hear rumor that he's working on another top secret Frankenmerc, the man is a GENIUS!
