    1994 2.5 200HP Mercury EFI XR

Ok, I need some help. Here is the problem and what I have done so far.

Motor sat for 18 months and was not run. Took it out initially and it ran Ok but had a miss every so often. So I put the boat back on the trailer and took it home.

I then pulled the injectors and sent them off to have them cleaned. Changed the fuel filter and rebuilt the diafram fuel pump.

Motor would run on the hose but will not rev up under load.

Took the motor to have it diagnosed and they tested the stator and triggers and determined that one of the switchboxes was bad and so it was not firing on one bank.

I installed two new switchboxes (aftermarket parts not mercury) and it is still doing the same thing it will not rev up under load. I find it hard to believe that one of the new switchboxes is bad.

It acts like it is trying to run in some sort of limp mode. Is this possible?

Looking for some direction as to what to try next.

Did you clean the fuel filters on either side of the electric pump? There is one inside the fuel line between the VST and electric pump intake and one after the electric pump in the top hat looking thing. I had a similar problem on mine...1993 200 xri. Mine was the one before electric pump.

Thanks for the idea. I have cleaned the one after the electric pump. I can't seem to screws out of the out of the one that is mounted to the bottom of the VST. I will have to try again tomorrow. Although I don't think it is lack of fuel. It wants to backfire if you hit the trottle hard without a load. That seems to indicate to me that some thing is out of time or it is not firing properly and allowing fuel to pass through to the exhaust.

I guess it is possible that one of the new switch boxes is bad but the odds of that seem very high.

Everything is stock and original except for oil injection. It was removed long ago.

Are you saying there is supposed to be a filter inside the u shaped hose? I don't think there is one inside my hose. I thought there was one inside the nipple where the hose connects.

Yup...in that u shaped hose. Take hose off and use a long 1/4" extension or piece of 1/4" od pex to push it out or check if its there. Push from the VST side of the hose. People trash them, people keep them. I kept mine - that fuel pump is plenty expensive!
