(2.5/280) Question on Wizard Piston weight?
I stopped this morning and bought a gram scale from the local pot shop as I would assume they have pretty good stuff. I'll be balancing my crank rods and figured I should check my pistons for fun.
They all weight 488g on the dot, but one.. one is 497g. I looked under for something stuck, glue, packaging tape anything but the piston is clean. Should I just grind a little off the inside or send it back or just leave it?

You now need a new piston with a locator pin and might as well exchange the heavy one and hope its the same as the others?

those appear to be Dean Pinks newer design that except Merc keyston Tin gold rings.I just balanced a set last spring and mine were 5 grams from heavy to lightest.I use carbide hi speed 1/4" shank 5" long on air die grinder 20K RPMs.It has a round ball on end about size of dime and made for cutting alum.remove material evenly around crown near rings where it is thickest.keep weighing as it comes off pretty quick.use WD40 or wax to keep bit from clogging.messy job.i have punished my wizard slugs with Merc rings in last 3 months in drag motor and they are holding up fine so far

I spoke with Dean and I must say hes a great guy. Pro Marine replaced my faulty piston asap and all the weights are well within specs and the block was re-assembled last night. I just need to finish the fuel rail and shes ready to run.
The pistons are the OE replacement pistons, not the "modified" Wizard ones if anyone is wondering.
Also let me say again Dean was a great guy and was very apologetic about me the faulty piston. I his defenses its next to impossible to physically pull each piston from the box and inspect them. I understand these things happen.. whats nice is the way Pro Marine and Dean took care of the problem.
A+++ to Both Companies.
