arjay tec, sea cast, nidabond transom?

Im currently digging out the ply wood from my transom, and I have been told by about 10 people that say the sea cast or pour in transom compound is great, I am wondering what you guys think? I know that it doesnt absorb or attract moisture so thats a huge plus, and for me it seems like a good option if I can hollow out the transom and vaccum it out very well. I want to know what people that arent trying to make lots of money think! The arjay tech is anout 200/for 5 gallons so that to me is pretty reasonable considering I might need 10 at the absolute most that will be good for 2300 c.I. thanks for the help guys

Not a good option in my opinion, many others will most likely not like the idea either. If your already digging it out you can put a product back in with resin and glass to make it far stronger. The pro's will chime in soon enough since I am just a novice at glass work.

What boat? What power? If it's an old beater with a moderate hp motor, and you want easy, the goop will be fine. If a lighter hull and a bigger motor will be stressing the trans, go with a conventional kneed transom. jm 2cts....

Hit the similar threads on the bottom of the page. Some experiences and opinions. Hard call to make, might be ok for low hp. Stuff has to be heavy though.

it really depends on how well the inside glass is
they say cut the top off dig it out with a chainsaw thats scary enough right there but then mix and fill the cavity up tape all the holes leaks etc
the bucket itself is heaver then the plywood
but with all that said people who think the old way is to much work / lazy people hahaha figure out a easier way

its a long swim if it dosent work

Its not that I see it as too much work, ive just heard that is a stronger, and more permanent fix, also I have looked ane it seems like I have to split the deck which seems rather daunting but if its the better way im willing to. It seems like everyone local goes the pour in route

A lot of people say its a good replacement but i would look at it this way . Digging out a soaked plywood transom between the inner and outer skin will never be 100% clean so this stuff will have to bond to some rotten wood . Next most of the pour in transom material is based on a polyester resin with with a slow hardener, not a bad thing but to get a good mechanical bond between old cured resin and new resin the old surface has to be very clean and roughed up so the new resin can grab on to the old resin that will never happen between the 1 1/2 inch gap of the two skins . So perhaps down the road all it will be is a slab of resin with a marginal bond between two relatively thin fiberglass skins holding a 115 johnson . Taking the top off a GT150 is not a hard job and glassing in a new plywood transom is not much harder . just my .02

Thanks gill, I read some reviews and spoke to aqua mania here in alex bay, they said its decent but they said im better off to either split the deck, or cut my splash well out I need new rub rail molding anyway and I think that drilling the rivits may have to wait until im back for the summer in august after guiding in alaska. I will be starting smaller projects shortly though. I really appreciate all the help guys!

I totally rebuilt my Shadow a few years ago and used epoxy resin and marine plywood and glass. I know 100% certain that my new transom is stronger than when boat was new. If i were doing it again, i would do the same thing. You can take pride in knowing that you did it right.

There are some great writeups on bassboatcentral.com in the restorations thread.
