Solvents in the oil can pass through and reduce the volume of the contents in the container creating a displacement that could pull in moisture under the cap although not likely, but this was odd.
The problem that has come about with plastic containers is that some are way too perable. Leave a plastic gas container inside a closed shed and you will know what I mean when you open the door....reason I store all my fuels and solvents in metal containers. Gary

Or just buy Penzoil Premium Plus and be done with it. Everybody I know runs it except for one guy who runs Klotz.

This was just cleaning up from last season. I had to use the Merc oil in a pinch last year and this was for a small kicker this spring. RP or Ams or maybe Ali for the rest. I really can't believe bragging about and oil and have pistons that looked that munched, and compression down to 70 even though the damage was done ealier.

I have always had good luck in all my two strokes with using blended oil in a steel sleeve motor and synthetic in a nicosil or chrome bore. I have used omc XD50, yamalube, with great results in steel bore outboards, heard great things about penzoil XLF but cant get it up here in enough places to justify using it. Used Amszoil Dominator in chrome bore sleds and steel bore sea doos ( still do) with great results .

Is there any particular reason not to run synthetic oil in a steel bore motor after breakin ???? Asked before but haven't got a definative answer. Thanks in advance. Gary

Jay Smith a a few others talk about ring chafing. I was told years ago to do this by a dealer I trusted when I was just getting into sleds ad it seems to work. then again I run amsoil dominator in my older sea doo's with great results . I had a bunch left over when I sold my t-cat and decided to burn it in the sea doos and see what happened, it really works well. Not sure what all this means, just posting what has worked for me.

Yes good point. i run Semi Prem pluss. Was told the same thing about full synthetic in steel bore motors. Full is best for Nic Semi best for steel. it lubricates the steel better as it has more hang time. Ive heard that Pennzoil is the exact same as Premium pluss and would use it if it was available hear. 11 years on Prem pluss for my promax 40/1 and always 7000 rpm ++ with 33cc heads never an issue.

Merc Premium and Premium Plus contains huge amounts of Molydisulfide. I have used both on high rev hydros at 16:1 with E free and they left lots of black deposits in the engines. I had to use Merc Quickleen #2 to help reduce the deposits. Now I use Pennzoil XLF with zip deposits and great performance (available at Walmart $18/gal) in the Merc 25ss and Yamato at 16:1 at 7000+ on the hydros. Per Jerry Wienandt retired racer and record race engine builder "Oil is cheaper than parts"

Here is an earlier link on Oil. Note Jay Smith's comments in the thread page 1, 4 and 5 about blended oil in steel bores (he likes Penn XLF) and syn oil in Nikisil, chrome etc,:.

There are lots of opinions on oil

Jay Smith was on the synthetic bandwagon back in the day then had a revelation and has recommended a blend in the steel sleeve motors ever since.
