How to speed up single ram offshore trim

I cant find the thread but I read something about "mercruiser mod" to the pump. not to be confused with swapping out the pump to a mercruiser pump.

What are my options making mine faster? 280 Offshore 20' mid with single ram trim.

First check which pump you have.
If it's the canister style bottom they are slow no matter what unless on 24v

there are a few different reservoir pumps. Don't remeber which part numbers which but there are some that are slower.

This Mercruiser mod you speak of,I beleve is replacing the pump plate with a MC gear set.Witch is the same as replacing the whole pump. You would need a doner pump, for the gear set. There is only one way to speed up your trim, more oil! Witch means ether a larger pump,or making your pump work harder/faster with 24V.I converted an OMC cobra stern drive pump $50 eBay and cut my lift time by almost forty percent.

I found a old junk boat with mercruiser and got the pump from it, remove tank and loosen set screw nut turn all the way in and back off 1/4 turn and set nut way faster than my old pump and it was rigged 24v but new one I just left it 12v. Works great

Yep. The Mercruiser pump is faster, and it is an easy swap.

ATF is the recommended oil. Also AW22 will work fine. You can get AW22 at NAPA.
There are 3 different ci. pumps available. Motors can be run 12V or 24V.
Go to the link I posted http://www.parker.com/literature/Oil...er%20units.pdf it will give all the information needed to make a system needed for the flow you want.
Have used this pump for many years working on hydraulic lifts.

I have heard the same thing on ATF. Complete purge of the system and then refill with ATF and increase speed by 25%.

The amp draw will be less with a light oil also. The light oil will let the motor run at the RPM it was designed for. Heavy oil drags the motor down under load.
Ambient temp has a lot to do with how the system will work. This system dose not build heat from constant load so a light oil is all that is needed.
Heavy oil is needed on a constant load system to keep the viscosity when the system heats up.
The new ultra light synthetic eng oils will also work good.

Dittos what 90 5.0 said. We fried the old merc canister pump and replaced it with a Bobs pump. We have 24v up trim and 12 v down. Works great. Fittings from Bobs do NOT work. Must source from hydraulic shop.
1990 Shadow bass boat w/ 2.4 200 Merc. Totally resto'd boat and love it!
