You got that right, Abit off the sub but were all getting f*%ed over anyway, its all about the hydrocarbons not the smoke (heavy particulates) that everyone (tree huggers) see from 2 strokes, and from what I have read the percentage of emissions from our non road spark ignition engines is very small in the big picture its just the smoke is so obvious we getting hit hard. So I read this as 2.2% of 9.9% of 37.3% not very freakin much.Dave

In my last class at merc school this topic was discussed. The instructor said they are still several years out before having to worry about catalytic converters on outboards

What would be the difference between the current verado 200 and new one.
The current 200 verado is already based of the 150 verado both are 4 cylinder superchargered. IMO i think mercury might bump up power in 4 cylinder verado to have a 225hp and 250hp model. This might phase out the optimax because they are the same weight 505lbs

Mercury came out with the new 150 to make re-powering easier and less expensive since Verado requires more expensive\complex rigging than the 3L Non supercharged 150. The 150 platform is a simpler design making maintenance easier etc. both have been big selling points.... I would imagine that would be one big reason Mercury would want to expand the HP using the newer 150's architecture...

Interesting, I didn't know about that 3.0L 4 cylinder N/A 150hp. I wonder what HP that could make adding a SC to it. Also this 150 is at 455lbs, so with the SC added it may stay right at 500lbs or below . There's some potential there.

Per Mercury, the new 200 (possibly 225 and 250) are NOT based off the 150. Should be interesting.

Yes, it should be interesting. Was looking for something this past Miami boat show but all they had was the 115 Pro XS (Yawn)... Those are great little engines, I own a 90, but was hoping for something more to be introduced...

I've been wondering how much HP it could make with an ecu change. It already is a 3.0L as someone else pointed out. 455lbs what's not to like there. Cosmetic change would be nice also but hey maybe it could work?

There is not interesting about what mercury is doing. The 225 and 250 is going to be based of 1.7l verado platform it's the easiest way to increase horsepower just look at the 2.6l verado platform 200hp to 400hp.

It would make sense that Mercury/Brunswick is spending their time and money on one of the larger segments of their outboard business. For the average consumer, cost of rigging and some possible weight savings in that HP range would be a big deal. Yamaha has been running away with their in-line 200 with mechanical controls for the past couple years. Are you going to see it on a fast boat; heck no, not anytime soon at least. However it is another step forward for the four stroke market IMO.

The real sad part is they already have a direct injection motor ready but Brunswick killed it a couple of years ago not enough profit they truly no longer care about out little two stroke market anymore all they care about is big block offshore race motors plain and simple

A long as I can buy parts I'm happy...

The price of new Is not in my future ,

Opti's are good enough for me.
