2003 Carbed 200 intermittently loses power after getting on plane

Carbed 200 will lose power in 2 seconds after getting on plane and sometimes it jumps right up on plane and run great for 20 or 30 minutes and will just lose power while running right around 4500 to 5000 rpm's and then go right back to losing power as soon as it gets on plane again.

All cylinders are 125psi, the 3 plugs on the left bank had quite a bit more oil on them than the 3 plugs on the right, when I pulled them to check compression immediately after experiencing these problems at the lake

Please help this problem really sucks

Could be a weak switch box on the wetter side. Had them do some weird stuff before failing outright. An adj. gap spark tester will normally show a weak box. That's where I would go 1st.

2003 is a CDM ingnition- no switch boxes- Because it is a CDM- there is little short of working or failed on the CDMs- I suggest fuel issue- sounds like you are "running out of fuel"
I have seen similar on a 2002 200 carb CDM engine- I found a broken primer line on #2 carb- leaning out I suppose-
The only other acting up I have seem was a stator breaking down once hot-
If you get tired of chasing it- sell me the engine

Check the trigger to see if the flywheel has scuffed it....these ignition systems are notorious for this and the motor will do crazy stuff.

I have not heard of this- Trigger fit is not very percise - so it can rotate for timing- so the center hub of the flywheel will make contact with the ID of the trigger?

Did a good visual inspection on the fuel lines that I could find and all appeared to be good, gonna take it to the lake Saturday morning and give it another shot and see how it goes. Will post the results afterwards and thanks for the help.

    Circlehook,
That is correct I have seen it happen more than once. The ID of the trigger makes contact with the OD of the flywheel inner magnet. This results in intermittent ignition failure.

So how do I go about checking this problem...do I need to pull the flywheel and look for some type of scratches on the stator....have never did much work on an outboard engine wise.

The bad thing about the trigger touching the magnets means the upper bearing and possibly the others as well are worn to the point of letting the crank move...I hope this is not the case....Pull the flywheel check it out...

There is a great little flywheel puller available that screws down into top center of flywheel - flywheel hub is treaded - ebay less than $35.00
Comes with engine lift eye bolt too- cheap "gotta have"

Took it to the lake Saturday after dumping a bottle of HEET water evaporator in the tank and it ran perfectly for about 8 to 10, 68 to 70 mph passes....could not ask for it to run any stronger, and while I've got this thread running can somebody give me some insight on some prop changes. Currently running with a 14 1/2 x 26 A5 Chopper and getting 71.89 mph at 5900-6000 rpm's (due to CDM ignition rev limiter) and was wondering if this motor could run a 14 1/2 x 30 Cleaver? right now I've got plenty of bow lift so I'm not to worried about losing much of that, but I would like to get to about 75 mph without being right on the rev limiter.
