Prop to use on 2005 Hydrostream Vegas 225 XS Optimax

I posted this previously in the tech section and am now moving it here

    I have a friend with a 2005 Hydrostream Vegas Tunnel V with a 225 XS Opti.

He is running a 26 yamy 3 blade drag clone. The boat does not perform well. He has tried all heights with no luck. I have not driven it yet.

Says the boat gets out of shape around 65 and gets to walking. Didn't these engines have solid mounts?

Stock boat, stock HP divison motor. (No black block paint), 20" 1:87 Sporty small shaft wih the LWP. Factory Detweiler d1000 6" setback manual jackplate.

I think I know but...What is the prop to use?? He uses it with a 2 perosn total load

65 is where you have to start driving it. That means doing more than just holding the wheel. It takes practice.

i would think a trophy would be a decent all around prop for that combination. maybe another 4" setback also? Pyro? how much trim are you running at wot? X2 on above post chine walk is part of going faster with an aired out hull, just learn how to drive it a little faster each time out.

Hard to beat a lightning ET for being stable and fast.....Lifts the whole boat, not just the bow....28p should keep it below 6000 r's.

I have a Vegas and use three props. Lighting E.T for speed, a High Five for watersports, and a BBlades Blaster 85% of the time for all around handling and speed. As others have said, around 65 it will take seat time to drive it.

Panther is right on the setback. I ran 10" in mine with a 14.5x33 lighting et. Handled great. I have a customer with a 2006 Vegas XT with 225 etec that was getting real squirrely around 80. Added 4" and it's like a different boat. He is also running a labbed et. I did notice that my older Vegas seemed to be a lot easier to drive. Prob just because I was used to it.when I added hydraulic steering it helped a lot too. Took all the fight out of correcting it when it started to walk.
