No speed numbers yet, changing speedo to gps style. Just finished installing new aluminum fuel tanks as ethanol literally ate the originals and contaminated the 225X. This vintage Skater the tanks must be addressed.

I saw this post from 2012 concerning this boat. Did the fuel contaminate the balsa core? Can you explain how the tanks were installed? Thanks

No, hull is great shape, caught the ethanol early...

Tanks were custom made to fit in the side gunnels. Can be removed easily.

225X needed injectors cleaned and filters changed. All good. No time to use boat, rather have other family enjoy.

I had my pick back in the day, but the original Power Boat magazine test gave it a very good review. Not many 18 tunnels that could seat 6 and take on bigger water. The shape I find unique and purposeful. As stated, I custom ordered from Peter in late '81 and picked up at their Michigan factory. Have all original booklets and bill of sale. Garage queen that's one of the best if not only one in this condition.

These are alum. tanks built into each side of the boat-not constructed like the 24s and all later skaters.Joe

So the 18 Skaters came originally from Skater with aluminum tanks? The corroded aluminum fouled up the motor?
