No..he can be sure...it's a fact. Yamaha is a 4-stroke engine company and has been long before merc started making 4-stroke outboards (After they used yamaha 4-strokes to get in the market). Funny that it took them until 2015 to make a 115 that's even close to the first gen carbed yamaha....

A bud of mine has one of the merc /yammi bastard 115 4s on his flats boat. He hasn't had a powerhead last thru warranty yet.....Last count is 3? But on the up side, the rest of the motor has lasted for nearly 6 yrs. (the merc part) Merc's new reg 4s motors are from what I hear darn near bulletproof. Merc has concentrated on the hi-po market as usual. The new 400hp 4s motor for example.

[QUOTE=XstreamVking;2827576]Buy a 250 nightmare, err I mean sho if you like them. But buy some tow rope while you are spending a fortune on an over priced pile of rice. Remember, if there was no Mercury there would be no yammis. They stole everything they know from merc....[/QUOTE

You are either joking or very uneducated on today's Yamaha technology

I have had them all over the years. They are all good motors if like said above they are well maintained. BTW I am a full time fish guide so I put a lot of hours on my motors every year. I also am one of the old timer guides with 20+ years of guiding behind me. Everybody knows me. They think I am a mechanic since I work on my own stuff. HAHA right....So my buds call me when they break down. I have towed all of them in at one time or another. I know you guys love your yammis and I can't resist jabbing at y'all once in a while. I have in all honesty seen some guys trade in their sho's and go back to the hpdi motors. They're all good till they break.....

anyone with any experience would agree they all have their issues. Bottom line is they are all designed by humans

HAha, yeah I think we have a lot of things in common.. Really funny thing about motors, my buds all run fairly new motors and still have problems. They think I am a master mechanic cause I run my old merc's (current work motor is a 2001 opti) and seem to (knock on wood) come and go with no problems running my older gear. They just do not understand that you can't let maintaince go. They run their stuff till it quits (it's under warranty, who cares ?) and then buy a new one. I carry some spare parts/tools on my boat (imagine that, being prepared) and have on many occasions done repairs on the water and got them going. I too, get asked by friends for fish or where they can catch some like I bring in. I just laugh and say, go out and catch your own fish.... Boats I will help with, catching fish is a very secret process and they will get no help from me....Gotta draw the line somewhere!
