This is an example of how the 30 Velocity's came out of the Pompano Beach, Florida production shop in the mid-80s. This was called the race-deck version of the 30. Timeless styling & paint.

Thanks for the kind words. I have owned three triple outboard cats. Hanging a lot of weight off the back of a small boat is a difficult deal. I think the 30 Velocity with twin 300X on the back would be a great pleasure boat. But honestly you are going to get killed in P3 with some of the I/O boats in that class. A 36 Spectre "2nd AMNEDMENT" with twin I/O is doing very well in that class winning Key West no less. My friend at Ateco Engines built the engines. No outboard can compete against a high torque I/O in the rough water in a speed regulated class like F3 where you have much larger more powerful boats. That Spectre has setup for a lot of punch and is capable of much higher speeds. I really like this project you have going. I suggest to keep it a pleasure boat with twins. Even the resale value will be much higher than a triple.

There have been numerous 30' Velocitys with tripples. Even my 1984 Checkmate 2800SX left the factory as a tripple engine boat! Nick probably had more seat and setup time than all of us put together. He builds and rigs boats for a living..and he knows how to make them run fast. I'm sure his Velocity project will not only be fast but handle quite well also!

I'm fairly certain Nick told me he used to race a triple engine 30' back in the day so I'm sure he'll be just fine. I agree that a twin 300 boat would be a more user friendly pleasure boat and I really think with the right setup 80 would be possible...but more power is almost always more fun, so why stop at 2?!?!? Haha. Keep the pics coming Nick!

I had a 22' Velocity back in the day and a friend with with a 30' race version w/triple 280's. Boat ran right around 85mph. That was using old propeller technology with 3 bladed choppers.
It pulled hard. Was a cool boat.

[QUOTE=JUPITER PULSARE;2827286] Even my 1984 Checkmate 2800SX left the factory as a tripple engine boat!QUOTE]
How much more does a 3 liter weigh (times 3) than the 2.4's that would have come on your boat?? 100 per motor?
IMO, it's a simple matter of balance which means weight placement when laying the boat out.
I've not raced one but see no reason why Nick shouldn't be able to make this work.
3.0 Mercs are 460ish each? Times 3 = 1380 lbs.
Most 30' Velocity's were powered by twin big block Bravo I/O's which are 1100 lbs each and run 80's??
So according to my math the triple Merc O/B's are 800+ lbs lighter. I like that math.
Of course they're hanging on stick 2' behind the boat but it'd probably take a 5' stick to make them equal two I/O's.
What I mean to say is, Nick it will never work and you should save your time and moneyI'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Tapping into the wealth of knowledge here...what would be the minimal length for an outboard bracket on a full transom boat, for the motor to be able to tilt up completely?
