Evinrude V8 serial number help/ ID

I'm looking at a boat with this engine on it, and trying to figure out exactly what it is I'm looking at. The model number on the welch plug is E300TLC0S , which from my limited resources tells me it's a 1985 300hp 20" mid. The serial number is G1038645

I'm assuming, since in '85 they offered a 3.6XP and a 275hp only, that what I have here, based on the model number is a 3.6XP. Also, the mid looks like a merc offshore mid with the big exhaust dump above the plate, but it's blocked off...looks like a factory block of plate. Is this right?

What should compression be on this pig?

Edit: I know these engines are outdated overweight gas hogs, and I don't care. I've wanted one since I saw one hanging on the stand at the end of the line at a boat dealer when I was 6...while my Dad was buying a set of plugs for his 85hp evinrude. I told him he should get one of the big ones and he told me I was crazy.

They do like fuel, but with the current cost of fuel it's a better bang for the buck than anything else out there. You say they are over weight, have you compared the weights? They are super light compared to todays new 4 strokes. If it needs a rebuild, I will highly recommend Monty at Montyracing.com . Trust me, I have three of them strapped on my fishing dinghy....

Yes, sounds like you have the XP. Cool that you can now defy dad's 1985 logic & get what "you" want. More power to ya', lol. Although not my cup of tea motor, they did run good when they were new. In the mid 80's, I bought many of the Second Effort version, which wasn't much more than a fancy cowling, for customers boats. They were whoring them out for at least three years, to anybody that would buy them, no matter if you were an OEM, a Dealer, or a customer off the street, for $4,200.00 a piece, brand new in the box, for as many as you'd like.

Then what are you doing on this forum? Aren't these motor the ultimate outboard ever made as far as performance/weight is concerned?

Not trying to be a smartalick or anything, it's a serious question.

These engines are in trucks? Huh...didn't know that. Which trucks are the GM LT4 engines in?

Highly suggested for any aftermarket replacement engine for pre 1976 cars and trucks. However, NOT recommended for marine applications. Don't specify the weight, but they are only 170HP behind Monty's V8, which weighs in at 535 lbs. How much do those 7 weigh?

    http://www.seven-marine.com/technology/specs/

as torque values on four stroke come in at a lower rpm then on 2 stroke it would be the engine to have on a heavy boat
just that price tag $ 70000,- and above

...Did you know that MerCruiser, Mercury Racing, IndMar Marine, Crusader Marine, Ilmor Marine, PCM Marine & others...all offer the GM LS Series engines as regular consumer "marine application" power? And have, for a number of years. Below is a photo of Mercury Racings dual overhead cam head LS motor, that they introduced in 2014. MerCruiser regular production inboard and sterndrive LS based engines have been available for many years now.
