    1979 Evinrude Drill Exhuast

    I have a 1979 Evinrude with really low hours. I would like it to be louder, not looking for performance upgrade, just some sound. I wanted to know where I could drill the exhaust. I would really like a picture of where to drill for referenece. I would like to possibly tap the holes so I could put some brass pipe plugs to quiet it down when need be. Please help, pictures and procedure.

    I would appreciate the help. The easier the better

    Unless it's on a race boat, making it louder will only serve to piss off the locals. No performance gains will be measurable. BTW, if the cowl is correct to the rest of the engine, that's a 1982 175.

    Thanks on the motor Info, I wasn't sure the year. I know there are no Performance Gains. I will have the holes tapped so I can plug pipe them. And my Cigarette is much louder, just want a little noise once in a while

    Those are stock Dirk Pitt. I have a gearcase that has 2 1 3/4 holes in it just above the cavitation plate that work great for being loud and them you can buy rubber pipe plugs that expand when you tighten the nut on the back to plug the holes. Here is a couple of picks for reference.

    scott,your rig looks fantastic,i love the gt150 hood!i drilled four 1/2 holes in the same locations as bruzer in mine.works pretty well.Unnoticeable at idle,but sings like a banshee when up on plane!ill post some pics when i get home.

    Thanks for the insight. I assume that I need to remove the lower. Drill the holes, tap the holes. and then reassemble. Just want to know the procedure so I don't do it wrong. Thanks for the help. Any pictures would be great.

    The hole saw will pull the circle portion out and no need to thread the housing if you use the expandable plugs he used. They are freeze plug inserts used when access can't be had with engine in a car. They cost about $2 each at any auto supply house.
