    Fuel and bleed hoses

Has anyone tried the motor cycle type polyurethane hoses for fuel and bleed circuits on a carb motor.

I used the yellow/clear fuel lines on my 2.4 200. Only been running it a month now since it went back together but so far no problems. You can see the fuel/oil mixture pulsing through the lines.

I bought it at a local hardware store that has bulk rolls and sells it by the foot. It's called Tygon fuel line. I used it for my bleed lines and prime lines. I don't think it is labeled for marine but is said to be safe for gasoline as well as alcohol blends. Here is an example.

If you use the clear tygon (yellow tubing), make sure you tie-wrap them to the fittings. That tubing will get soft when the engine is warm and may come off the fitting barb.

I did that. Don't know how well it will do in the long run but it was nice to be able to see the mixture moving through the lines when I fired it up. You can tell if you have a bad or clogged check valve. I also used the clear tubing with the braiding in it for my water lines coming off the thermostats.

Only issues I find and I build about 10 to 14 engines a year in my shop and lots of small repairs as well.. so I see quiet a bit of tygon used.. that being said it does get soft when warmed up so use tie wraps of something to clamp it well. The other issue is it becomes hard and brittle as it ages and if it still is holding maybe OK but I replace it.. myself I use marine fuel grade hose from Pro Marine on my personal engines and on customer engines as well unless they specifically want Tygon.

I Used them ( before ) on a 3.0L Merc as bleed lines and I removed them the next week. When the engine '' sneeze '' the '' back fire '' goes through the yellow hose and burn it right out at the brass connection, I went back to rubber hoses right away.

Engine sneeze is from too lean at cold idle.. Anyway long story short I rather have rubber fuel grade stuff. Tygon is mostly used for weed eater fuel hose.

if you get correct size tygon for the barb you don't need zip ties ,I only had 1 line come off in 12 years and that's because I pulled it off and put it back on and did not cut off 1/2 inch

The Tygon hose used is "Tygon 4040" and yes it is not very heat tolerant.
