So I did some research with the Vin # the guy gave me, and it just isn't going to work.
I'd have to buy new upper / lower seals, split the case and use my carb half case, swap the cranks, and essentially rebuild the motor all over again. The bolt pattern from block to adapter on mine is different than this one too (according to Crowleymarine schematics).
I've made the executive decision that I'm just going to spend the 1800 in the fall and get a rebuilt powerhead with warranty - - - Ugh... I'm spending 1800 on a new powerhead for a force...

What's everyone's experience with accepting a ported powerhead as a core charge? WIll they not take it if the ports were worked? I assume they could resleeve it and be ok ? If not, that's another $300

I know you have a lot of time invested in this force but for that kind of money I would consider looking for a nice OMC 115 or 140 and be much further ahead or even a 115 Mercury.

I knowwwww - You're tellin me! The asking prices will be nice and cheap around here in a couple months - That's one good thing about new England - at the end of the boating season.

Look what came in today... 1999 powerhead from a new friend named Trevor in Canada. Yay.
Time to start pulling her apart tomorrow.

Looks to be fresh water from around the great lakes area.
1999 block but missing some case bolts which makes me think it's been taken apart once before. Which isn't a problem, because it still looks tight all the way around, pistons and sleeves look great too.
The reeds were way loose, so I'm going to put my intake reed block and carb plate on her.

The exhaust chest deflector plate was completely different though - I'll get some pictures of that. Really interesting seeing that. The '95 plate was completely flat. The 99' has a giant angled bubble to deflect gasses top-down.

So I'm basically just using it for the block and flywheel. Swapping over all my carbs, reeds, electronics, fuel pump, etc. I'm going to see if my high-compression head fits also. Not messing with ports at all this time around... Maybe in the future? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What I thought was going to be an easy stock swap of a powerhead is turning into another project. I thought it was a little fishy when the guy who I bought it from kept urging me to check the head and exhaust bolt torque specs. He probably tore the whole engine apart and half a$$ put it back together. Anyway, here's a rather long video if your bored. Loose rod caps, missing main crank bolts and such.

amd some pics of that exhaust plate for FMP!

Cylinders 1, 2, and 3. There's a good sized gouge in #3 on the top side. Most likely needs to be bored out to fix it. The compression is probably horrible. I didn't check it before I pulled it apart. I'm undecided if I want to fix it now or just run it. I'll prob bore the #3 to 30 thousandths and use one of the Pistons from my 95 block. Buuuut not sure if I can being that the Pistons are top guided not bottom. Need to see if the wrist pins can swap over.
I've got all these extra parts from the other motor blowing up... Ugh.

hey, bro.....Give me $150.00 and take my Mercury 1150 Tower with T&T, control box and work it over the winter....You aren't having the best luck with those 90HP Forces.

A big black Tower would look better hanging off the back of your boat if you were to ask me.

Then again I might be Bias.
