When I had checked prior to this last outing, my compression was 125, 132, 134 on cyl 1, 2, 3. (cyl 3 had this carbon buildup.).
I'm going to siphon out as much gas as I can, and get in some 93 octane @ 50:1.
Going for a quick test run this afternoon.

I plan on pulling the cylinder head after today and bringing that to the machine shop - Just don't know what to tell them for how much to mill off - I'm guessing half a tenth will bring it up about 15psi. I might say to shave off a full tenth 0.10" of an inch.
    Whatch'all think of that?

As in the piston tops? it is a cross-flow motor, so it has those deflectors cast into the pistons. I'm not sure what else you could mean

Water tube in the water passage around the ex side of each cyl, with or without the older triple or 4 never fouled that quickly, water route is near identicle.

Tunnel , did you ever check the clearance TDC to the head with solder. Squish band at about .04-.045 is near race tight. Taking a 0.10 off might get you too much .

Haven't done the solder trick yet. Clay works good too. I'll do that when I pull the head tonight or tomorrow.
If I remember when I assembled the motor, I had gobs of room - I'll find out soon.

Do it before you unload the head. Solder gets you right over the defector and to the intake side squish band. YOU probably have near or more than .08 -.10 . Clay is off and on and off....., solder is easy down every hole , just bend it to get over the deflector an to the flat outer band . It should really be near the same all over but the compression in the solder will tell you where it's high. Sometimes you have to hunt for the thick diameter solder or just double the thin stuff and do your best to get an accurate read. Only because it's happened to me, clamp the head in the middle as well as the ends. The triple prob. wouldn't bow out but it can happen. Someone did a five for me and it turned into a joke.

Wish I still had a picture of the dang cylinder head. Couldn't find one.
I need to do some calculation of volume from the top of the exhaust ports to the top of the cylinder head too while I have the head off. That will help me and my algebra.

Get those clearance numbers and start . I MIGHT start with .015-.020-.025 range and check it. You don't know till you have the clearance.

I can't win with this thing. Ran fine on all cylinders in the driveway... So I Swapped #3 and 2 coil and plug wire to swe if anything would happen. I get to the pond, throw her in the water, hit the gas to get on plane and it's back to 2 cylinders only. Blew the number 1 coil. Swapped out for all new plugs, and threw in an old known working coil. Then it ran ok the rest of the day. Idk what the hell is going on.
I'm tearing it apart tomorrow anyway.

In in other news, I lifted the motor about an inch, so it's I think 3" below the pad. Still revs up to 6500 and only 45mph. Slip is 11%. With enough trim, it'll blow out and rev to the moon. I saw 7k quick before I trimmed back down. Need to get the power up on this thing and get a bigger prop... After I figure out my electrical noghtmare. Debating getting a new stator trigger and rectifier just because.

Call Clark at CDI, tell him exactly what parts are on it ,he will get you what you need.

I'm driving down to Virginia tomorrow afternoon- - - Doing a 3 day regatta on my brother's Melges 24'. Yea, those Kite boats, no motors... Oh No! haha.
I don't get paid till next Friday anyway, so I won't be buying the stator/other parts till then. ... I'm going to check clearance this afternoon and then pull the cyl head tonight. Hope to get it to the machine shop tomorrow.

... Still need a bigger prop - Gotta start thinking of what to get -

The good, the bad, and the ugly... I'm about to use this motor as a damn mooring anchor.

Ive got 0.19" clearance on all three cylinders. I could chop a full 0.1" and still have gobs of room. Did the solder test and turned engine over with a wrench.

So pulled the head studs, and the head fell right off after the last bolt. COOL I saved the head gasket.

Then I look at cylinder number three on the bottom. ITS FUGGING TOAST!!!! What the FUGG. The motor is barely broken in- does this look like a lean/rich condition? Or a detonation/pre ignition problem?

The top two look fine, you can even see where the wash comes in from the intake.
Cylinder 3 carnage in the next post.
