I thought that Greg had told me he was running over 115 and could cruise at a hundred but I wasn't going to stir anything either. I know its a big boat and the acceleration has to terrible in comparison. I have had 3 triple outboard cats and 3 in a row definitely makes em' go.

Pretty sure, the boat Grant has is a stock 32B tunnel not a 328. I was just over there this morning. The person that purchased this boat came from a Sunsation 34 I/O so the triples OBs weren't really the most "pleasurable" motors. The 3rd motor had been added to the boat, some of the rigging and materials weren't meant for ocean / salt water use and the first weekend he took it out it blew up a gearcase. So with the 400's having just come out that is the route they went. After seeing and hearing the numbers on the first 3 running cats with the 400r. I don't believe anyone is going to find all these magical numbers with ANY hull, until mother Mercury makes some changes. Time will tell.....

I agree with you Joe and Brad! They are doing everything to promote this new motor but for an outboard cat it may not be the fastest solution although for a pleasure boater that likes no smoke, noise, and have warranty it would for them. Personally I would take the new DBR 300x kits JOE? Still patiently waiting and run right by the 400r!

Don't expect any big numbers out of Steve's 318/400Rs.........I've already discussed this rig with Pete. It's a standard pleasure layup with full standard interior (4 passenger rear seat, side panels, center console, etc.) - the complete setup will probably weigh close to 5,000 #s ready for the water. Pete figures it will run teens - and I agree with him. It's NOT going to run 120+, unless Mercury turns up the boost when they have it. They're known to do that sorta' thing when it's a high profile build such as Steve's new 318. I've heard of quite a few 700, 850/1075, 1150/1350/1650 boats that were more hp than the Mercury label on the engine stated. As you all know, when you've got access to more boost, hp comes easy. I just spent the weekend in Rick Bowling's 37 w/ 1350s - I can tell you that those motors are very impressive - and his aren't even turned up!

It appears the 318 Skater at Mercury did not get much testing in today due to some issues they were working out. Looks like we have to wait another day. Maybe they are turning up the boost LOL!

interesting there prop choices for those tests? Not what i would have thought at all from the testing Ive seen guys with even the 300xs on sub 22fters want. 15 dia seems to be the norm and even more dia on the smaller hulls for instance. i would think they would want to try a 15 1/4 min dia 34-36 pitch prop on those hulls with a pair of 400,s? DeWalts? I would also say the setback is way to short on the Skater but maybe at 1200+ lbs of outboard little setback is all thats needed evan for a 32fter?. The Nordic deck boat has alot of setback built in. That looks like a really cool 100mph+ usable craft!! i like! i like them both!! If I had the bucks I would take either.
