    Possible Allison Restore???

    How many of you Allison Owners (and others) think this 1979 18 XST is worth restoring??? Without going into huge details, the transom does need replacing. (About a 4-6" rotten ring around bolt holes) Stringers/hull seem to be fine, one soft spot in floor roughly 18" square. Carpet is almost perfect (that's odd) Boat has been in barn or under shelter whole life. Would love to see Allison do restore, but have contacted them several times, seems they are not interested. Any ideas from others who have done similar what ROUGH total cost would be? Will try to attach 3 pics. Have about 20. Boat has some sentimental value. I rode in this boat at age 15, when boat was less than 6 months old, knew original owner and his sons. Would love to see it run in it's original "Glory". Comments PLEASE.

    Depends on the value to you!Boat looks basicly sound,My best guess for a repair only would be in the $2500/$4000 range.Depending on what part of the country does the repairs.

    DIY $1500-2500 without re-gelling or using premium material ie. epoxy resin or composite board. It has been through my limited experience that you really can't be sure of the condition of a old boat until you get the cap and deck out where you can see exactly what you have. You already know it needs a transom so most likely it will need some coring and stringer work. BTW my costs guesstimate includes 'some other work'. I had a 19' boat priced at a shop at $5500 without transom work. That was for coring as needed, stringers as needed and modified, livewell rebuilt, re-gelling the very top of the cap, and a few other minor things. This was in mid GA. Good Luck
