Had some bad luck today...
Leaned out #4 on my engine today. Bummed out real bad over it, have had so much health trouble all year I have barely ran a tank of fuel through it since Thanksgiving! I finally get a day where I actually feel well enough to hit the water for some seat time and burn a damn piston running 63 MPH!!! Luckily for me SSTom was close and gave me a tow the last 5-6 miles to the ramp and helped me load up.
I guess I only have myself to blame, I cut the front of the cowling out and added the front cover like you hot rod guys use but didn't fatten it up enough. I could possibly clean the bore with acid to remove aluminum and put a new piston in but I think I want to just bore all 6 cylinders .015 over and start with a good set of pistons. I would love some recommendations on pistons (Vertex, Wizard, Wiseco). I keep hearing Vertex but there website doesn't show outboard pistons and I don't see them on Pro Marine either.

Have you done a compression or leak down test on the other ones ?
You said your not using it much why do a total rebuild IF you don't need it?We have invented the world; WE see

Guess you will have to get the piston out and clean and measure the bore...... and see just how bad it is.... as said, if the other cylinders are good, then a one piston rebuild should work. AND check/clean the carbs..........

Slimm, sorry to hear.Maybe pull the front and a head, and you can snake the bad one out. Then measure and determine weather it can be saved as is,or a rebuild.About three hours work mite get you back for the rest of the season.

Thanks guys, I was pretty bummed last night. I have some honey-do jobs to get done and some housework to get done, after that I am going to start tearing into this thing to see what's happening inside.

Wish I could help... At least you made it to the water and could enjoy a sweet tow. Could be worse... you could have been riding on a Pontoon boat.

I am a little under the weather for a few days, doctor didn't sign my refill prescription and the damned pharmacy didn't bother to let me know until saturday afternoon when I went to pick up the refill...of course the doctor is closed until Tuesday. That means I am out of pain medicine until Tuesday afternoon at the earliest, not sure what stopping suddenly after slowly building up is gonna be like but right now it's a nightmare and it's only been about 18 hours..
As soon as I feel better I'll hop on out there and yank off the heads and see where things stand. The engine is not locked up which I contribute to the 36:1 oil and having shut it down at the very first sign of change in running.I wasn't running hard at all, just cruising around 5400 or so after passing a pontoon boat in a curve and easing back into the throttle I am usually pretty quick to shut things down if something feels or sounds off...probably the years running hot rod engines with and without nitrous, that **** makes a monumental mess when things go south.
