The record could have been crushed

just some facts, at the point of impact (bell boey 3) Recovery was 26 min ahead of the time from the previous world record time, at that point on the August 7,2013 run they were averaging approximately 105 mph, yesterday they at the same point they were averaging 145 mph, .... the boat just got faster and faster as the fuel burned, Joey had all to do to keep the down the speed, rest assured Steward and Joey will be back next year with a 56' they will set a record that will stand for a long long time, I have 3 different videos from the mounted go pro cameras I wish there werent so many opinionated people here..... its increadable to watch, it really could have been tragic

yes record could of been crushed but people could be killed (them and other boaters, maybe one of us or your family members),,lots of pleasure boats and fisherman in area where they hit bouy, they have to re think for next time(maybe closed course or spotter boats added) if they are going to be doing those speeds...we don't have speed limits on water but one bad tragedy and their will be someone pushing legislation for speed limits on water and then that will effect us all..

what happened was they had a sea plane as as a spoter Recovery 2 , the plane disappeared in the fog bank a couple of minutes pior to the impact, other wize they had eyes in the sky throught the course... there was a helo with divers also but the helo couldnt keep up, so the seaplane was used directly overhead, with constant communications, there was no expence sparded for saftey, or anything else for that matter

For you guys saying how dangerous and tragic running for a record can be and may ruin our sport. A large percentage of the boaters out on the water on any weekend are a greater risk than these few running to set a record. This record run is on a weekday morning when there is very little traffic on the water, the safest time available for this sport. Many people are not even awake when these guys are out running.
It is unfortunate the fog rolled in, that is hard to predict and much harder to keep a run going. Sad to see the impact happened, glad it was just a glancing blow and not a direct hit. I sure hope no one takes what I say in a negative way since I have no intentions for such.
    Regards,
    Charlie North

I'm sorry, but I haven't been able to watch a video on this thread. in the beginning it seemed it was directed at offshore, so I put up this one that is absolutely Bad Assed in my book, as well as eloquently presented. Class Act for sure. so at this point, what boat are you referring to, to me,,, they are "space ships" at my present grade level but planning on graduating one day fun out
