For what period of Mod-VP?
For example:
1976-1980: (VP w/stock engines, and Mod-VP w/mod engines)--V-bottoms only, no tunnels. Typical rigs: Allison R-18/R-20, Laser 380 Ray ('80-on), Witchcraft, Baker, HydroStream V-king, Venus. Engines: Mercury 200 then early Mod-VP, OMC 235.
1981-84 (Mod VP w/mod engines): V bottoms phased out by 1983, tunnels begin dominating 1981. Typical rigs: As above plus Laser LTV ('83-on), Eliminator, Baker RST, Stoker SST, HydroStream Vegas XT (late '84). Engines: as above plus OMC 2.6 XP/GT (1983-84), Merc Mod-VP, Yamaha 2.6.
1985-on (Mod VP ('85 mod, '86-on "stock" engines): True race hulls including Summerford STV picklefork (all versions) ('85-on), Stoker SST (all versions), Seebold Eagle, Mirage MVP, HydroStream V-King/Valero YT ('86), HydroStream HST ('87-on), can't remember the rest (also don't forget the only competitive V-bottom of that era, Allison XR2001 Mod-VP). Engines: Mercury Mod-VP (carb then injected); OMC 2.7/3L looper V6.

All of them John I want to see some rigs with a classic race look. Classic motors . also some of the one off motors that came to the races . even would like to see some boats like the little laser you used to race and that Allison you have now . pretty much I was born in the wrong time and wanna see some old school 70s to 80s boat . and see what people have now from that era .

What about mine in my avatar? 83 LTV factory string steering with a Bridgeport cowl. Lloyd Burns bought it new for circle racing then later rope raced it. Now 800ft ODBA boat.

I am collecting goodies for an old school Mod VP/OPC marathon style vee bottom boat.
Currently looking at late '60's - early '70's Checkmate vee bottoms to hang a shorty OMC looper w/a 12 pack intake w/string steer.
BTW, thanks for the history lesson John!! Never seen it broke down like that before.
Also agreed on era #2.
I'm trying to be careful as I'm now old enough and smart enough to know I'm capable of building WAYYYY more power then what those hulls are capable of handling and no longer young enough to not care
Can't even imagine trying to heal up after going for a high speed swim these daysLast edited by Instigator; 09-03-2015 at 05:54 PM.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.
Checkmate 16' 140 Johnson
Hydrostream 17' Vector FrankenRude I
Laser 480 (?) 21' w/GT 200
Glastron Carlson Conquest w/XP 2.6
Glastron Carlson CVX 20 w/XP 2.6
24' Sonic w/twin 250 Johnsons
24' Sonic w/twin 250 HO Johnsons
19' STV River Rocket w/FrankenRude II
Allison XR 2002 w/Frankenrude II
