135 hp mercury to 150 hp e tec ho

My 1996 Starcraft 1800 ss bowrider(1600 lbs)and 1996 mercury 135 have seen better days. the family CFO has approved an overhaul for next year!!!! after thinking of ways to keep the 135 and upgrade the powerhead i have decided to use better judgement and just get a newer motor. every year a water ski show company sells off it's one season used e tec 150 H.O.'s for 10K plus rigging puts me at $11K? that would include warranty for 5 years and all that wonderful new reliable technology. i am so sick of playing with that revver lever every time i want to start it and then the impending cloud of blue smoke, even when cruising slow around the lake it stinks up the seating area. the technology and improved economy is good and all but i'm looking forward to having a motor that can pull my 240 lbs out of the water on a single ski, yeah the merc could do it after it drug me for 150 yards which took all the fun out of skiing. the other thing i'm very interested in is how much faster will my boat that goes 52 on the dash mounted speedo (yeah i know thats 37 on gps) be. if i'm hoping for 5 mph more will i be disappointed?

I'd guess 3 to 5mph, better fuel economy and more torque. What shape is the Starcraft in? No point in repowering if you need floor, transom, and core.
