    400r - does 3.0 sporty bolt up?

Will the 3.0 sporty bolt up to retain the 1.62 gears? Is driveshaft splines the same?

It sure looks like the same 3.0 bolt patteren. I'd say it's close enough to make it work but that's coming from a guy that screws them to evinrudes

Word on the street is that the 1.62s are not living very long so far. I guess that he has had it out three times and burned up 3 sets of gears. It will get figured out but hasn't yet.

Same thing happened 5 years ago with the dbr/Simon 3.4+L that was on kirks mirage. Brand new 1.62 3.0 sportys pushing the pinion out the side of the case. It was almost one sporty per river run at one point. but a 3.0 merc can't make 400

    Kev,

One things for sure, hes got balls running that mirage the way he does. The thought of that case breaking at speed would over power the desire to run over 125 like he does.

It will bolt up however the splines on the drive shaft are wrong. There are issues with the motor throwing shift codes while running. They are working on it.....

I have a 3.0L SM 1.75 modified to bolt up to Verado. The 350SCi would destroy the gears in short order. The 400R is much more powerful than the old 350, so I don't even want to waste another gear set to find out.

I looked at putting a bravo spormaster on a project im doing but there were a lot of issues. They don't have a reverse gear, its a big case so it definitely would need to be clean out of the water for big numbers, no waterpump , the input shaft is huge and would have to be turned down just to make a pump fit and they are really long. But it could be made to work, huge straight gears less loss, huge skeg to work with and gears down to 1.25. and there are aftermarket ones so no merc crazy unobtanium stupid prices. Dave

350 sci and the 400R junks the standard sporty internals. I will be sticking with 1.75 5.44 Verado Sporty and see how it goes.

the housing doesn't need to be hydro dynamic when it's high and dry over 80.
