    Mercury serial number lookup

Can anyone tell me definitively what this motor is? I was told an '88 200 hp but I just want to make sure it's not a 135 150 or 175... I'm having so many issues that I need to know that someone didn't slap 200 carbs on a 150. I'm starting to think my motor is running super rich. It has wh46's with .080 and .082 high speed jets. Any info is appreciated in regards to the serial lookup and stock jetting for this motor.

I should add that there is no plate that I can find on the midsection... This number is from a freeze plug on the top of the block. I have 1 piece heads, and the top of the pistons are flat, not sure if that helps.

And the mains are right ..for WH46s on a 200HP 2.4L, which it doesn't sound like you have.

F.... That's not cool. I had looked up the serial range on marine engine.com which is the only thing I could find thru googling and it shows the same range for all the V6's ...it did seem to fall into the 87/88 year but I could never tell from that site which V6... You guys are sure right ?....because the good news for me is that I actually have a 150 parts motor and it came with Wh29's, main jets are .064 and the idles are .056 if I'm reading them right the stamping is hard to see. This could be the answer to a four year anomaly for me. I bought this at the end of 2011, never figured it out in 2012, bought a viper and never used this in 2013, had a baby and never used it 2014, and here I am finding out it's an over carbed 150 lol what an ass. Should I use the wh29's or is there any performance benefit to jetting down the wh46's? Thanks guys !

Thanks for that link thats what I've been looking for... I'm going to try the WH29's I have, they have .064 jets, fingers crossed. At this point I don't care about it being a 150 I just want to run correctly. This thing has always run sluggish and plugs are always wet with fuel with no fouling. I always thought it was ignition not firing at high speed but I am really excited to try this next test run with the other carbs. Thanks again guys I'll let you know what happens.

Can't thank you guys enough ... It's finally fixed! WH29's seem to work well with the stock jetting now I just have to play with setup. I've been trying to figure out what's wrong with this motor for years and the whole time it was being force fed too much fuel.... Win win it's runs faster and better on gas lol.

where do the WH-16s fit in? I have a parts motor (w/o manufacturer`s plate) which is a 2.4 chrome-bore oval port with those carbs. The fuel fittings seem incongruously small diameter? Pse help.

WH-16s were early series 200HP carbs probably around model year 1980.
