Mercury updated swivel bolts 1/2in to 12mm?
Working on rebuilding my 2006 300xs mids. Need new upper swivel bolts. It shows that Mercury updated swivel bolts 1/2in to 12mm?
I can't find anyone selling the old part number 8495811 only the new number 8M000517.
So has anyone used the new bolts in an old mid? The 12mm is .472" or .028" smaller than the original. Is this extra slop an issue?
Does anyone have a source for 1/2" bolts?

I re-built one of my reg. 225 optis with the new bolts. I didn't use a mic to check them, just gooped them up and cranked them down. I can't tell any difference. They do have a diff finish on them than the old ones. (no paint) I have heard that only way to get grade 8 stainless is to go metric. Don't know if it is true.

I would think that the new style bolt is stronger. I was doing business with a guy in UK that did alot of modifications to his 300xs and was breaking upper mount bolts just about every month to the point he manufactured his own high-strength bolt that was slightly larger. Sold it as a kit with drill bit.

My understanding is that the new (2014 on ) are ARP bolts from the factory because of failure issues on the earlier ones. There has been some discussion on OSO, Skater Outboard BS thread on this.
