Promax 300 1998 on tunnel
Looking into a 1998 CP Gullwing with a 1998 mercury 300 promax. ..was trying to get a little info on how the gullwing will handle chop and how it rides..it has standard torquemaster with 1.87 gears and atlas hydraulic jack plate. .I know from the gate it will need a low water pickup but with it being only a 500 pound hull is it a potential 100 mph boat ? anyone could give me any type of input info on pros and cons of the hull an the motor would be super appreciated thank you for your time fellas...

The Gullwings CP, Condor, Jimmy Johnson and Youngblood are some of the best handling and riding Jet Boats around (my father has a Jimmy Johnson and cousin has a Condor). They run well with minimal HP. I have never been in or around one with an OB. Great boats, good luck. Promax's like the fuel but they still don't compare with the big HP engines. I look forward to seeing the pics.

I have a Mirage 18 foot tunnel with a 12 inch set back and a 300 promax and it runs great. The 3.0 liter 300 is heavy and causes the rear of the boat to sit deeper in the water. Has a lot of torque and good speed but could be a lot faster if it had a lighter modified 2.5. A 260 or 280 would be a better choice for racing. If you just want to go out and play the 300 promax is very dependable and will run over 100mph if prop right.
