    Tuff 28 with twin 400R's

Saw a red Tuff 28 with twin 400R's on Lake Muskoka today. Beautiful rig! I'm guessing it should be able to run around 90 flat out. Anyone know the setup and what performance you would expect out of this combo?

A 31' Skater will be running with twin 400R's very soon in NJ and a 32' Doug Wright Canopy in Florida.

did you get any pics of the Tuff 28 with twin 400R's running?

Unfortunately I did not have my camera or my cell with me so no pictures. Re: the pretty sad comment about maybe capable of 90 or so, that is a pure guess not knowing the performance of this rig. Given the couple that were driving it, my assumption is that it may be set up more for higher speed cruising vs max speed. I would guess that with that power, if you worked at tuning it, 90 or more should be easily attainable - but again just wondering if anyone on the forum knows any facts.

one thing i do know those 400r's dont produce their rated power unless there spun up to 6800-7000 rpm

Steve's new open/pleasure cockpit 318 will be finished at the end of next month, but Mercury is taking it to dial it in - so it may be a little while still before he takes delivery of it. I have no idea about the DW32, other than I'm certain it's going to be very fast!

My prediction is low-mid teens for Steve's 318 and 130 for the DW32. If Steve's 318 were an enclosed cockpit, race style setup such as the DW32, I'd say it would run 120 (to compare the boats fairly).

Back to this Tuf28 thread though, I don't see why it won't run 100+ with a pair of those 400s on the back. It should haul ass in smooth water, I just don't think it will be a good setup in the rough.........

That 32DW is going to give some of the slower inboard cats a hard time!

    Rayzor,

Do you know if the DW32 w/400R's will be tested in a race circuit?
    ==> https://www.facebook.com/pages/Supre...=page_internal

GaryB. has been testing a pair of ROS 200XS in a DW32 [SBI]

And P.Pillar has tested a pair of 300XS in a similar DW32 [SBI]

No, I don't know any more about the DW camp than what we all see online. I do have a good friend that's friends with Kyler Talbot, so I get the inside scoop on the most dominant DW32 on the U.S. race circuit, but I don't inquire about any of the other DW32s. They're awesome outboard cats though, that's for sure though!

The tuff with the 400's runs currently a hair over 100, it needs more setup time. It is not done there but the diffusers need to come of the props to settle the back end down. It is expected once dialled in that it will run 110-115. The owner is coming from stern drives and is getting used to it.
I have seen it out a lot. It is a pretty boat.
The 400's are less than impressive, they don't have the pull you would expect and sound like a seadoo.

Michel won't be running the 400s in superstock, the 300XS approval has been enough of a hassle. The boat is a 4 seater canopied complete with a/c and extra side windows. It was built for poker runs and use as a recreational boat. He might enter it in a bracket class or one of the production classes (whatever they can fit it into) a couple times but that was not what the boat was specifically built for.

I am sure the tuff (as light and true as they are said to be) will end up running hard once they have it set up correctly. On smooth water, those motors (will ride for free) with the weight being carried by the gear cases.

Hey come on now, some sea-doos sound bad ass!! --I haven't heard one yet but they are both small displacement supercharged motors with tree hugger approved exhaust so I imagine you are right. The sea-doos with aftermarket down pipes and big boost do sound wicked... I have a friend getting a 400R next week and its going on a 20 ft. cat. He runs 120 with an X so it will be interesting to see what happens.

You're right, my bad. Of course those were the Seadoo's that were 2-strokes with pipes, lol.
