    2015 Lake Koshkonong 1000 Ft. Speed Runs

    Saturday August 15th


    Where: Sunset Bar & Grill - 'on the North Shore of Lake Koshkonong'

    Directions: Located just off the Hwy 26 & Hwy 106 West intersection... take Northshore Road to Highridge Road.

    Cost: $20.00 for 3-Runs
    (you may purchase as many additional 3-Run Sets throughout the day as desired at discounted price)

    Registration: 10:00am - 12:00pm

    Tech/Safety Inspection: 10:00am - 12:00pm
    Drivers Meeting: 12:15pm
    Speed Runs: 12:30pm - 4:00pm

    Note: There will be a designated private pit area on the pier for fuel, props and tools, so you may tweak your set-up throughout the day.

    Also, we will have an FM Radio Transmitter broadcasting speeds over a designated FM channel, so spectators boats can 'tune in' and listen to the speeds on their radios.

    Kosh Radar Run Classes 2015


    General Class Rules

    All classes require: helmet, lifeline, and engine kill switch. Helmet restraints aren’t required but if one exists, please wear it. Boat must pass common Coast Guard Safety Rules. Additionally fire extinguisher must be present, fuel tank and battery must be secured, and battery terminals must be covered.

    Interior and Seating requirements (for classes where applicable): The interior and factory seating must be installed. No "other than factory" seats will be counted.

    All class designations are at the discretion of the Inspectors only. Please consult with these officials with all questions regarding class placement and running multiple classes. They have the final say regarding these decisions.


    All boat numbers will be assigned at registration. This number must be visible on the starboard side of the boat. Inspectors will have shoe polish available for you.


    Classes




    Classic Outboard Racer
    • Pre-1990's pleasure boats, V4 and In-Line 6 power, recreational engines
    • Appropriate ski vest and kill switch required


    Vintage Outboard Lake Racer
    • V4 and In-Line power, modified engines and no seat requirements
    • Kill switch, helmet, lifeline or 100mph ski vest required
    • Larger Mod V4's and Older Mod V6's may be bumped to Super Stock


    Stock and Green Recreational Outboard
    • Full Interior (4 seats) at least seating 3 from factory
    • Outboard engines considered to be "Green" entered in this class must be as produced, no mods will be allowed
    • Helmet, minimum of a 100mph ski vest, and kill switch required. Lifeline preferred


    Super Stock Outboard
    • Same as stock outboard with minor modifications, 130psi. Compression limit—3.0L

    Lake Racer Outboard
    • Full Interior boats, minimum of 3 seats
    • Mercury HP engines allowed with minor mods, 1" spacer, 140 psi compression, no S3000 engines
    • All other modified engines at Inspector’s discretion: most any mildly modified motors allowed; mods must use parts of the same manufacturer


    Outlaw Outboard
    • Same as Lake Racer with the inclusion of higher compression of 180lbs. S3000's and aftermarket mods


    Pro Gas outboard
    • Single seat race boats--capsule boats must pass capsule inspection and driver must have Capsule gear
    • No engine rules, no nitrous oxide

    Inboard Jet
    • Common Jet Boats with full interior
    • 100 mph ski vest, helmet and kill switch required


    Inboard V Drive
    • Common V-Drive Boats with full interior
    • 100 mph ski vest, helmet and kill switch required

    Multi Engine Outboard
    • 2, 3, 4 Engine powered boats, Inboard or Outboard
    • 100MPH ski vest (lifeline is preferred), helmet and kill switch required

    Unlimited
    • Anything goes, Inboard or Outboard, any power enhancements


    Note: These are the basic rule guidelines for each class. Event promoters & officials reserve the right to make rule changes or modify classes without prior notification.

    Registration Guide
    Registration: 10:00-12:00
    Tech Time: 10:00-12:00
    Driver’s Meeting: 12:15
    Start Time: 12:30
    End Time: 4:00
    Announce drivers with remaining runs beginning at 3:30. Runs will end promptly at 4:00. Any racers at the starting line at this time will be allowed to go.


    $20 entry fee will include 3 runs
    $15 for an additional 3 runs (CANNOT be split, must purchase 3)


    100% payback—plus Sunset and Event Sponsors will throw in “BONUS CASH” for various classes to be determined the day of event.

    Guaranteed $500 for the fastest boat of the day!



    Registration Procedure:


    • Drivers fill out top portion of waiver +sign bottom
    • Enter name in spreadsheet and assign number. Drivers may NOT request a specific number (assign in order)
    • Driver takes form to boat for Safety and Tech inspection
    • Inspectors must sign off and assign class
    • Return form to registration w/ payment
    • Information entered in spreadsheet

    I was wondering if the course will be set out further than it was last year. I know from last year it was ran in shallow water and more than a few of us had dinged up props and so forth.

    Not that I know of John. Koshkonong Speed Runs have been the same weekend every year since we started it in 1996. This is the event's 19th anniversary year. I think we were the first to do a speed run competition for smaller lake boats. Prior to Kosh Speed Runs my brother started the Koshkonong Bootleg Boat Run (race across the lake and back) in the late 1980s when he owned Anchor Inn. When he sold Anchor, we moved the event over to the north shore and changed it to speed runs when I bought Sunset in 1995. Leigh and I sold Sunset Tavern in 2005 and the event has continued on with the current owners, Rick & Terri Grant. I believe this aerial photo was from 1997 or 1998.
