    Wow, gorgeous!
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

That is some big flake. Very retro. Nice job your doing with it. Mind sharing your application procedure and materials list with us? Lot of people want to have this kind of finish and don't know how.

I sanded the whole boat to 80 grit after faring it out , then i shot the top of the hull with a gallon and a half of colored un-waxed un-thinned gel thru a 2.5 hvlp at 2.2% hardener ( i only shot 16 oz batches ) . The next step was to spray the flake , i used a gel-coat dump gun with a #7 tip , i shot 20 oz batches of straight clear with 30%by volume flake mixed in again @ 2.2 % hardener , If i remember correctly i used 2 gallons of gel and 5 pounds of flake ( my wife reminds me of all the extra flake laying around the garage ) . Then i buried the flake with 2 more gallons of un-thinned gel ,then sealed it with a half a gallon of 50/50 gel and duratec high gloss , i shot that with the 2.5 hvlp stood back and admired the the whole boat covered with orange peel .
After it cured i took 100 grit on the orbital to it to knock it down , then i shot it with a final heavy coat of 50/50 gel duratec mix .
The final wet sanding is 800 , 1000, 1500 grit then 3m heavy duty compound with a wool wheel at 2500 rpm , then 3m machine polish with a foam pad at 5000rpm then some Nu-finish wax ( not sure if i want to use it on the whole boat though ) .
I've been working on this beast since 2010 , full gut, new wood , interior frames , tracking impossible to find parts yada yada and im real close to making it a real boat again . Heres the link to my resto thread if you want to take a look there's a ton of pictures from the thing showing up in my driveway to where it is now . Gil

That's a lot of hard work and an expensive material list. I have done flake before and know what a ball buster it is. Only thing I would recommend is to stay away from silicone based waxes like new finish is I believe. They will dry out the surface IMO. Use a carnuba based wax as it is oily and gives the surface more protection. Meguires makes a # 31 boat sealer wax that is good. Boat looks real cool.....

Gil, I use Meguires Premium Flagship Marine Wax on my 1991 Hydrostream Virage and love it. Have multiple coats on it this year and shines like crazy and offers superb UV protection. I only use 303 Protectant on my interior seating for superior UV protection also. I also would avoid the Nu Finish for same reasons as Xstream V-King. Where in Mass are you? I live in New Boston NH and boat on Lake Winnisquam in Laconia NH. I owned a brand new blue and silver flake 1989 Glastron Carlson CVX 18 back in the day and loved it. Ran a Merc 135 Black Max on it. Love your Gold flake. Where will you take it for boating once done? Good luck with it. Jim

It was done with a bright gold base gel-coat , just about 5 pounds of flake and just about 5 gallons of clear gel-coat .

Gil, love to see your finished boat if it is done by next summer out on Lake Winnisquam in Laconia NH. I boat there often in my Hydrostream Virage - it is about 7 miles long by 1 mile wide and never too crowded or nearly as rough as Lake Winnipesaukee gets. Beautiful new double wide and free launch ramp as well. Very sweet setup and lots of free parking as well.
