The problem is entering the turn with too much speed (Too much air under the hull)
Those cute little fins that Rich has added should really help---
Glad there was no damage to you or the 'Thunderball'

..............Thanks Gene- in retrospect I was indeed going in to the turn to fast and part way through the turn I knew I was in trouble as it felt like it was sliding and then caught and spun - no damage to the boat and if someone has it on video I would like to see it to learn from it - Ted

Mertens crash happened right in front of me. I was on the shore. I can still see that cat flying over him, and Jim hanging out of the cockpit.

Gene. Did you run the "Red Bird" in closed course races? I recall Jock running the " El Lobo" in closed course races at the Stadium but I don't remember you running your wing in those races.

Hi Jim---The 1-2/3 mile closed course was not the ideal course for a wing---Ted has a few pics, and I found this----Tommy Sikes????

But you and I must have run a jillion miles on the Stadium 2-1/2 mile course?? And that was a 'closed courrse'? At least the 'Unlimiteds' thought so----

Tommy ran several boats by that name. I had forgotten the Switzer. He always seemed to come up with pretty good equipment but didn't seem to win very often.

I have also heard that he was a very good mechanic but I don't recall him working as such.

For all the trouble he got into, Tommy was a very friendly guy. I remember he was especially nice to us kids in the pits in the 70's. I understand his wife back then, Sharon, drove v-bottoms and was on that TV show "I've got a Secret". Anyone know anything about that??

Sharon drove a Checkmate in FG class for several years. She did pretty well as I recall. When I first knew her she was married to Neil Chambers who was a partner in a Mercury dealership. She married Tommy after they split.

I am not going there. There was a lot of craziness going on back then. As far as I know no one has been arrested or charged in Tommy's murder. Police were looking at couple of possible motives. My son is a Hollywood Police Officer and my daughter is a prosecutor with the State Attorneys Office and I have asked them if anything was happening on this case but it has gone cold.
A City of Miami Rescue truck and an Engine collided this afternoon. 7 FF injured.

Tommy bought the warehouses where i kept my 311 Chris Craft. His office was four doors down. When he was killed I heard the Marshals were locking down the place so I took my boat to my shop for a couple weeks. Then Randy Lanier got busted and he had storage there too but I never saw any cops or feds around. You old Miami boys may remember Jack Wilcox was killed the same way, and the murder was never solved. Neal Chambers owned C & W Marine in South Miami. It was about a block north of Dade Marine where I worked. Neal bought Dade Marine after I joined the Marines in 64.
