    Couple merc questions. ( efi 3.0 )

2001 250 efi 3 liters. 25" one standard rotation, one counter rotation. Salt use

First.... port motor @135°, starboard @160° both have brand new merc impellers installed correctly. I'm guessing just do both t stats in the 160° motor? Runs fine just warm. T stats stuck not fully opening maybe?

Second. .....I had my brother in law remove my throttles last season so had little reference or memory when re installing them. So port motor throttle has the opposite action you'd expect. Forward on shift control = motor going in reverse.

I've got gaffrig throttles and hooked up both cables on the back side of the levers. To fix my issue do I simply move the port cable with fwd=rev to the front side of the gaffrig throttle linkage?

The motors are one standard one counter and spin the props out.

thanks, and sorry if this is slightly confusing to readers. Did my best without writing an encyclopedia sized post.

    MD

cooling.... thermos are 143 degrees, change them all out and service the poppet valves too......

Yes on the shifters, just move the cable at the shifter on the one that is backwards..... and adjust

Make sure the left hand lower unit has the left hand prop etc..... for in case the lower units got put back on the wrong motor............

    Ttt.

Did t stats, poppet, and fixed / adjusted shifter issue.

Ran boat all weekend but port is still running hot. @160° or at least that's what the ( newly installed ) gauge is telling me......

The tattle tale has a good stream but psi is a little low at idle @ 3 psi. The impeller on port is new as of last yr. Maybe drop the lower and inspect anyways?

Do I need to have the motor in F, N, or R to drop the lower?
Again, coming off of a few years of bravo I.o. boats so this is all a bit foreign to me.

    Thanks for the time. MD

Can be in any gear to r&r the lower, just make sure it's in the same gear on the lower as the position of the shifter when you put it back (I just leave it in neutral) If you still have low pressure after you replace the impeller, there might be other problems such as blockage or a blown powerhead base gasket..... If I remember right, those older 3 litres had a problem with the exhaust adapter..... pull the side pans off then remove the rubber exhaust relief hose off the adapter (the one that goes in the center and through the split in the pans) # 26 in the pic. Take a flashlight and look inside the hole looking for cracks in the inside wall of the housing

Just raced the dark and dropped the lower.
Impeller, cup and wear plate are all looking basically brand new still.
Less than 10 hrs on them.

I'll pull the pan tomorrow and look at the inside of the exhaust relief hose etc.....

Checked all of recommended above ^^^

    All looked mint.
Decided to swap sending unit and see wzup which I guess I should have done in the first place? ??

Ran on hose @ idle and high idle for 20 mins @145°
Going to run under load this week and hopefully everything stays the same.

    I'll report back.

    Thanks flabum!!!
