28 Tuff with a single 400 Merc

Conehead is building a lightweight 30 centerconsole and theres talk of either a 350 or 400 verado for power. Will probably give you a decent idea of how fast the tuff will run with that single 400

I dunno, 85-90 is as fast as I want to go, and if I wanted to go faster, I guess I'd go with an STV/280. But to run in the big water of Lake Simcoe, a 400 HP Tuff 28 might be as good as it gets for that size of hull. Be sure nice to try.

thats what i thought some people have fanticies of big powered boats that ultimately will put them someplace they will regret..............

I did have a long conversation with Mark today about a single 400 on one of his 28's. he totally agrees with the speed I anticipate.

Curious, did he think it would tickle 90mph with the single Merc 400?

I know for a fact Kevin at Progression would build a 27 with a single 400R. Velocity also had interest in doing a single 400R on their VR1 hull but with Steve Stepp on the outs from the factory I'm not sure I'd trust anyone else to set that boat up. Rich Sutphen Sr. is also getting back into the game but you'd probably need twins on his 31 hull because of the weight.

your so right, in all Kevin is really the only one really in the game, and weight really is a critical factor I dont know but I would GUESS that Velocity and Sutphen would weigh more than the Progession, thats just a guess though..... based on their prior stuff... Progression has done it time and time again with verifable results, everything else is pure speculation on boats still on the drawing board, there has been talk that the Tuff would not be a good canidiate with a single 440 r, and i will reiterate my stance, how in hell would this person know that? to make a statement like that without supporting data is a conclution that should be taken with a grain of salt, thats a example of a person with no first hand knowlage tying to influence others with a ridiculas opinion, unless he had some crystal ball, really
