Freshwater In PA, NJ, MD, NY

What is best place to run within 5 hours of Philadelphia.

I've been to Raystown, great place great lake. Anyone been to Allegheny Resevoir, Pymatuning Lake, or Wallenpaupack?

Also anything thats a nice lake to run in MD or NY besides Scandaga? Not to much I believe that great in NJ besides maybe Hopatacong.

    Thanks all

The upper Chesapeake Bay is freshwater. The C&D Canal, which connects the Ches. Bay to the Deleaware Bay has a lot of go-fast offshore guys moving back and forth. The Northeast River, the Susquahana, the Bohemia River and the Sassafras River are fresh water. The Sassafras has a good number of OB and IO go-fasts around on the weekends and has the cleanest water most of the time. This is where I spent my time before we moved to SC.

Deep Creek Lake in western MD is a beautiful lake. Not real big, around 10,000 acres, I think. We trailered out there and rented a house for vacation from time to time.

If I am correct, Lake Hopatcong has a 30mph speed limit on weekends during season.

Once you are above Cold Spring (West Point Academy) you are freshwater I believe on the Hudson River. Pretty cool views up that way and it just keeps going.

Its less then 3 hours to the St. Johns river (direct flight to Daytona from Philly), I can line up a place for you to keep the boat and your season never ends. You have 200 miles to run and never see the same thing twice.

200 miles? Darn that must be a nice situation to be able to boat in.

I have lived down here for 10 years now and have been to a lot of the fresh water in Florida. Its really hard to beat the St. Johns river, it runs through several lakes, there are springs, back water runs, and state parks along the way. There are a lot of sections that never get over a 6 inch chop regardless of the wind conditions (great for the STV and small boats). Lake George (2nd only to Okeechobee for inland lakes in FL) can get some serious chop so it can be a forced turn around spot for many but yes we are pretty spoiled to have it in our back yard.

Thousand islands (st,lawrence seaway) is only 6 hours away. Pretty much the best freshwater boating on the east coast. 1000's of miles of boating. You can run from the great lakes to nova scotia. Fuel everywhere and restaurants everywhere and motels with docks on the water. Best time to go after kids go back to school,we go 2nd week in sept and have the place to ourselves. Some stuff closed that time of year but little traffic.

I agree. I have a camp halfway between Alexandria Bay and Clayton and this is the most beautiful spot in the world to me.
